So saw this video on YouTube of a 2014 ram with a 3.6L that had a chain failure at 626,000. Is this the same motors that's in our JL wow what a champ if it is.

The 3.6 is a solid motor. I had 2 JKs and now my JL that had/have it and I’ve never had any problems.

the 3.8 in my first JK, on the other hand, sucked donkey balls.

Well this is my first non Japanese vehicle and it's my daily driver. It's nice to know my engine has a chance to last that long as well. I usually don't see anyone posting high mileage on them and I don't mean 0-130k miles. Not saying those miles ain't high just saying those are common numbers for a Japanese brand. My second pick besides the JL was the 4runner with common 300k-400k plus miles being some what of the norm. The Wrangler won my heart a long time ago. It's nice to know that FCA can make a decent long-lasting motor as well.

I thought the JL motor was very similar to the JK 3.6 but it had a few changes. (How can the same motor go from 6 quarts to 5 quarts of oil)?

The JL uses a longer dipstick :)

Smaller oil pan and probably a better oil pump.

At rockauto the oil pan part# was the same for the JK & JL, at least a few months back when I was checking. There may be some other differences w/ oil passages and such that might cause the difference in capacities but ???

The 3.6 was significantly redesigned in 2016 to reduce fuel consumption as well as reducing weight.

Sadly those changes reduced strength in a search for weight reduction, and hurt longevity in search of frictional losses - rings went low friction gapless and main and rod bearings are narrower.

Compression was also increased to get more efficiency. This is why the new 3.6's have challenges with pre-ignition particularly when using winter gas.

A modern 3.6 getting 250,000 miles would be admirable performance.

Saw this on another post
And the JL 2dr gets the puny 17 gallon tank, saving another 24 lbs, although you might have to walk an additional
80 miles vs the "heavy" 4dr. :( :( :(

My 2019 3.6 Jeep has exactly half the fuel tank as my 1997 5.9 Ram, 17 vs 35 gal. Fortunately, it gets twice the mileage, 24 vs 12. So range is the same.
