Thanks @tatarin that's what I thought at first too but it looks to be something else. Side by side with pic of Rhino RB10 installed on a JL. The mystery slider/step:

• Slits go in two directions
• Appears to have a tube running along outer edge
• Step plate fastened with screws
• Extends out less from the body

Weekend trip from Denver to Glenwood Springs, we decided to hit an easy trail near St Mary's Glacier. We got up a hill before the trailhead and found some jeeps pulling out another jeep. We were told the 1st jeep had been there since 9am stuck. It took the other two jeeps about an hour to free him at around 3pm.

Long story short we didn't attempt the trail with the amount of snow that was on it.

Took the opportunity to take some pictures of the jeep!
