It seems like the Jeep dealers in my area (Glendale CA) are not excited to see me (for sorting out glitches), unless I do some sort of maintenance services that will cost me money... my JL is now a year old, and I think Jeep’s warranty is good for two? I will try a new Apple cable. By the way, about the ESS, by stalling I meant the car actually loses engine, and I need to start it up again (not automatic stop/start).

I have had the same/similar issue in my '19 JLUR since it was two weeks old. Mine also repeatedly goes into a crash and reboot cycle (like every time I use it...). Went for a road trip last weekend and it started intermittently cutting the sound from the driver's side speakers. I have taken it into the dealer twice. First time they said they couldn't recreate the issue, second time they did a soft reset, re-installed something (I'm not a techy...) and nothing has worked. they told me to wait until the next auto software update and see what happens after that...doesn't seem like a software issue to me.

More recently, when it crashes the first time, it won't reconnect to Carplay no matter what. Even if I turn the Jeep off and restart it, shut off and restart my phone, etc. Doesn't matter which phone I use (iPhone SE, iPhone 6s, iPhone 10). This is all with a brand new Apple brand cord as well.

The other issue is when I am listening to music from my phone, whether Bluetooth or Carplay (obviously not Carplay anymore....) if I fast forward a song it takes about two minutes for the system to sort itself out and move to the next song.

I had a similar issue with my '16 TRD Tacoma and dealer installed a new head unit and it was perfect after that. Jeep dealer said that they can't do that. Pretty frustrating with a 3 month old vehicle that hasn't had a functional stereo for 2.5 of those months. After the last half hour call with the dealer' service manager he said to just wait another month and see if any info comes from Chrysler.

@JeepCares any ideas?

Following... I've had similar issue with my JLUR where carplay starts working and then without warning it kicks out and acts like I don't have a phone connected. When that happens it stays that way regardless of what I do (believe me, I've tried lots of things... radio off/on, shut off jeep, wait 10 minutes, try again...). I've tried with 5 different cables, two of them brand new from the apple store. I've tried in 3 USB ports on the Jeep. I've tried two different phones.

If I leave jeep overnight then it usually clears the issue and carplay re-appears. But, after 5 minutes or 5 hours it freezes again and I have to wait another day and hope it clears.

I called @JeepCares and the case manager told me that uconnect / carplay was not compatible with iphone 8+ and anything above iOS11.3 Their suggestion was to go back from iOS 12.3 (my current iOS) to 11.3 or use an older phone like an iPhone 6.

Really??? Hard to believe that a brand new Jeep JLU Rubicon isn't compatible with an iPhone that came out in 2017. On a related note I was traveling last week, got in my rental car at the airport and plugged my phone in and guess what -- carplay worked perfectly. That was on a Tahoe.

So, if @JeepCares is listening, I sure would like some real help -- not the run-around I received in the last 6 weeks of "Jeepcare help".

Also some apple OTA updates can cause issues as such with usb cords with certain radios and causing similar issues. (Of course if your radio isn’t needing a usb update) go into general settings and Face ID& passwords check and see if this is turn on or off.

Identical to what mine was doing (only about a month old). I read in another post about checking the fuses under the hood. Turns out over half of the fuses were not seated completely. I haven't had an issue since then using the dashboard connection. I haven't tried the center console connection yet. Will try to remember to hook it up there and see if how it does.

update: connected to center console this morning and it failed within 10 minutes.

@Buckster thanks for your update - helps to know others are experiencing same. Somehow it’s therapeutic!

You know I’m not sure which is more disappointing... the fact that a $55,000 JLU Rubicon can’t reliably support CarPlay or the fact that @JeepCares doesn’t seem to care!

BTW, I just bought my daughter a $20,000 VW Jetta and guess what ... CarPlay is working perfectly on her car! I took my Jeep out this morning, plugged in my phone and the CarPlay icon never appeared.

Come on @JeepCares — how about a reply?

Well a new low... Jeep was sitting for 8 hours and I just drove it. CarPlay worked for about 5 minutes and then froze. I tried all the usual things and no luck. But then I noticed that it was also NOT CHARGING. I have not noticed that before. Why would it freeze and then no longer charge? I tried different cables, and front and console USB ports but no power. However the rear USB had power (no CarPlay though).

COME ON JEEP!!! THIS IS RIDICULOUS!

@JeepCares do you care?

Hi K-nuk,
We can imagine why this may be frustrating. Have you had a chance to visit your dealer for an inspection of this? If not, we recommend doing so. We're happy to connect you with a Case Specialist as well so you have some additional assistance heading into your next appointment. To discuss this further, please send us a private message as that is the best way to reach us.

i have a 2 Door JLS that I bought no more than a month ago. A sudden flicker has been bugging me while on CarPlay. Have tried different phones and cables (only apple) already. Has anyone had this problem? Any recommendations?

Get a better cable. It has to be a high speed cable. I had the same problem on my wifes sport and all I did was change the cable and it was perfect
Spot on. It's best to use a factory cable. A lot of the cheap aftermarket cables can charge batteries but don't work well with data.

I thought the Uconnect 3 that comes standard with a Sport doesn’t have CarPlay capability?

EDIT: Just realized that a Sport can be configured with an upgraded Uconnect.

Don't know if it's been said here yet but I was having an issue with Carplay when I was using the USB port in center console. I now use the one under the radio and do not have any more issues with Carplay disconnecting.
