Just got back from taking a family vacation to Pigeon Forge TN/ Great Smoky Mountains. Had a blast and the Jeep handled everything with ease! Trip was around 600 miles from our house to Pigeon Forge and we averaged 19.5 mpg by my calculations and 19.7 by the computer. This was travelling from central Illinois driving approx.75 mph in rain most of the way down. We have the 3.6 V6 and it made easy work of the terrain both on the highway and throughout the mountains. Coming home for the 600 miles we were driving in rain again and a strong head wind and averaged a little less at 19 mpg. I was very pleased with those results considering we had me, my wife and our two boys plus the rear of the jeep was loaded with luggage for 6 days. Our boys are both over 6' tall and they said they were comfortable in the back seat for the journey. We explored a couple days in the Smokies hitting Cades Cove and Newfound Gap roads! We are saving the roads off the beaten path for a future visit due to weather conditions and time constraints. The scenery was absolutely beautiful and we all look forward to making more memories with our Jeep in the future.

Ex-auto quality engr & mgt. Now just enjoy life.
Glad you had a good time. I live here and it's easy to take for granted. Impressive mileage. My 3.6 seems to hang out around the 18 or slightly below range... mostly just me, sometimes with dog, and sometimes with wife & kids. Did you get a chance to go on the Missing Link of the Foothills Pkwy? Beautiful drive and great views.

Unfortunately we didn't get a chance to go on the Missing Link. It's on our list for when we return!

I love that area! I've done a fair amount of kayaking in that region, Nantahala River, Pigeon River, Chattooga River.

where was this and what is it.
Its on the east side of Townsend where Highway 321 and E Lamar Jackson Parkway meet. Exact address is 8205 TN 73. Townsend TN 37882. They have a website www.jeepthecove.com. They sell merchandise(shirts, hats, jeep related) and also sell and i think install jeep accessories. The owners are awesome and we enjoyed visiting with them. They take pics of you and your jeep when you visit and have you sign your name and where your from and they hang it on the ceiling for visitors to see. I definately recommend stopping there if you get a chance.

That location used to be Jeepism; a shame they closed but the new one is cool too.

We'll be there in March. Can anyone recommend some simple primitive trails that I can take the family on? We range from 13 - 72 in age, so we can't get too crazy. Some scenic gravel roads at best, maybe. ;)
