My 2018 JL has what appears to be rust under the paint just below the window on the driver rear. I took it to the dealership for this and a steering issue last week. The body shop manager told me that due to the location and the fact that its rust they will not warranty the repair and would be requesting a new door from FCA... Well he called me yesterday to tell me that FCA denied the replacement, and that they informed him that I needed to take the vehicle to another Jeep Body Shop that will warranty the repair...

Has anyone experienced this run around? Its annoying enough that a jeep with 10k miles has a phantom steering issue and corrosion already, but FCA's response is to tell me I need to shop it around town for someone that will assume responsibility. This is my first Jeep purchase and likely my last after all this.

I have a JLU rubicon with 16,000 less then a year old and just realized I have rust bubbles under the paint by 7 of the 8 hinges! Iā€™m going to take it to dealer this month some time. It has me worried how bad this issue is

I'm confused. A certified dealer won't warranty the repair, FCA won't replace the door and FCA told the dealer for you to find another certified dealer that would warranty the repair? What's the qualification for a dealership to warranty their repair? It almost sounds like your dealer is just picking and choosing which warranty items they want to perform. Maybe they are admitting their paint & body guys are inexperienced and cannot do body repairs.

I bought a JLUS 2020 2 months ago and itā€™s spent over 2 weeks in the shop for loose steering. Also getting the run around regarding warranty work. This will be my last FCA vehicle and am telling people far and wide how shitty their vehicle is as well as how horrible they treat their customers.

I have a case specialist but they've been useless. Until upper management orders dealers to honor warranty claims and service faulty vehicles, there's nothing Jeep Cares can do. The problem is this: dealers far and wide are not listening to their customers and are flat out denying that there's clearly a problem and refuse to work on these vehicles. Once the dealer states "jeep drives as it should" the STAR case is closed and we start this process again.

I just noticed the same issue on the passenger side door panel just above the lower hinge.
It definitely wasn't there last month. I have had the Jeep for about 11 months and around 5,500 miles, and it is garage kept.

@JeepCares What is the correct way to really fix this issue? Can you outline what Jeep dealers are instructed to do. I have 3-4 hinges with this condition. On one hand, I don't want to make it worse with a mismatched paint job or touch up, on the other hand, I want it dealt with before the warranty expires. This gets really ugly on the JKs over time. 11 month old Jeep with 11k miles.

Sadly I have to include my '18 JL in this issue as well, beyond frustrating. Which doesn't even come close to properly explaining it. Only had it 1 year and 4 months (bought it brand new with 3 miles on it last year) and this happens. I wash this thing at least once a week, wipe it down, wax it, and trust me this wasn't happening last month. This happened pretty damn fast, I paid attention because of reading about this issue on here for awhile now. So I'm partly stunned, but also worried about the future (after fixing) because honestly......wtf? Me personally I try to keep my vehicles for a few years, but this is no bueno. Haven't even made it 2 full years and so far this is sh!t. Not mad anymore, but just being honest.

If this was 10+ years old, used, and abused, we'd be having a different discussion of course. But we're not. Not even 1.5 years old and........can you imagine 5...7....10? years from now? I don't care if I technically do or don't still have the same jeep in 10 years, it's bullish*t. I feel like we all spend a lot on these rigs, then we dump more cash into customizing/mods, then maintenance as well as upgrades, to now planning paint jobs around work schedules before the new car smell is even gone yet! I've already accepted the fact that the value probably takes a dump (because of this defect/negligence) and who could blame anyone, it's been considerably repainted, that's not like just changing brakes.

I took mine in this morning to get pictures of the corrosion/bubbled paint on the doors, looks like it starts from underneath the hinges. Got a call back about 2 hours later saying Chrysler is approving/covering the repaint job for both doors (2 Dr), all 4 hinges, and a 5 day rental which is expected. Goes in Dec. 2nd for 5 days. But now I have more questions.......

1. What actually happened/failed? (useful so the repair doesn't suffer the same repeat issue)
2. How do we prevent this from reoccurring during the repair/repaint process? (see #1)
3. How is the repair covered as far as any warranty? What if this happens again?

I'm gonna be optimistic and hope the doors match the rest of the jeep after because I do not want them to repaint or blend the body for this. Seems doors are temporary accessories at this point. :headbang:

-Cory

TL:DR............wtf.......wish me luck........the end.

Hi Jon and Cory,
As our team is not mechanically trained, we do rely on our dealers to diagnose and preform the proper repair process. With that being said, if you would like any additional assistance while working with your dealer, please feel free to send our team a PM. We would be happy to connect you with a Case Specialist if needed.
