So I have decided on the XD822 Monster II's but I have a question. I really wanted to go with an 18" wheel, which is what is coming stock on my Sahara now, but it appears that everything I am seeing between the forums and dealers keeps suggesting to go 17x9 vs 18x9.

Is that accurate, and if so, why? I get airing down off-road and potentially getting more coverage from a smaller wheel, but is it really that much of a difference?

I intend to use Nitto Ridge Grappler's and am still trying to decide between to 275/70R18 vs the 285/75R18, so any suggestions there would be greatly appreciated as well.

I am not planning to do any lift initially, and when I do it will only be a 2". My off-roading will mostly be fire trails in the North Georgia mountains, so nothing too extreme, but it will definitely be a daily driver as I am on the road quite a bit for work.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Hello Atomic Anvil,

I just got my 2018 Jeep Wrangler Sahara with stock 18" wheels. Two days later I changed wheels and tires.

Wheels XD Monster II in 18x9.0 5x127/139.7
Tires Cooper STT Pro 325/65R18

There is no rubbing at all. Ride is a bit bouncy but that was expected. Tire shop set them at 50psi (crazy high) so I did the chalk test and lower them at 35psi (much better ride).

Waiting for the tailgate support for the spare tire. I guess the stock setup won't handle that much weight. It's supposed to be 85lbs.

I have no lift but I am planning on buying the Mopar 2" lift. I really don't know why, I guess it will help on ride confort?? A little help here needed.

Hope this helps.

Wow! I can't thank you enough for the images and info. Your setup looks absolutely amazing!

I was considering the Mopar 2" myself, but my parts guy said there are definitely issues with it. He has been waiting for an alternative, as the couple of Mopar kits they have installed so far have been no-go's.

I knew that spare tire was going to be an issue, and I am really glad you confirmed it. I have seen a few carrier options, but nothing that has really blown my skirt up so far... Let me know if you find one you like, and I'll post some links here if I come across anything as well.

Thanks again, and congrats on a seriously sweet new ride!

Hey JL-MX,

Very nice !! Just got a white JLU Sahara and compiling my short list of wheels for the local wheel (crack) shop. Planning to go with 20 x 9's, and your XD Monster's are on my list too. Can you please kindly share what offset you chose, and also what brand/type rear wheel carrier support you have coming ? much appreciated !!

JL_MX I love your setup! I want this same setup on a new Rubi. I have a question (for anyone) about your Monster II’s. Most of the pics I’ve seen of that wheel are on a 17” w a (-12) offset. This seems to push the tire out nicely away from the fender lip. When I looked at the 18” version, specifically your (+18) offset, I expected the wheels and tires to be much more flush under the fender lip (which I don’t want). BUT - your picture speaks otherwise! It looks like it sticks out just the right amount. But I can’t figure it out (-12) To (+18) is a 30mm difference, well over an inch. I would expect to see the 18” wheels tucked in much more because of that. Can anyone smarter than me please explain? Lol Thank you in advance. Basically, I just want to make sure that if I order the same setup as JL_MX that it will still stick out a bit. Maybe it’s bc of the 325 tire width? Ps - first time poster here, please be kind. :)

Is your "parts guy" from the jeep dealership or private off road shop?
I installed the Mopar 2" lift myself and I haven't had a single issue. What do they mean the ones they installed were a "No go?"
