-get the Twill version
-get a HF moving blanket (fold and insert under Sunrider)
-get some kind of shade for front or both (helps with wind buffeting)
-use the Velcro straps to hold the sunrider open at 55 to 75 MPH
-after install use a hot glue gun with clear or color glue sticks to fill in the front channels of the sunrider about 1 in to seal off the front edges
-drill a small hole right under the front channels where you applied the fill in glue stick
-drill a small hole under the rear of the channels (no more drips when you open the doors)
-this method has been applied to my HT, Soft Top, and Sunrider
Best Hybrid combo in my opinion and I run 3 Jeeps with this setup year round
Freedom panels be gone.

Just ordered it. Thanks Bestop!
Excellent! Thanks for the order. I just checked - it's been picked and is waiting for Fedex to pick it up from the warehouse. You should be able to get live tracking on it later this afternoon.

Thanks again for the order!

Noise at town speeds is negligible. No leaks other than JL leaks. I don't leave it open at highway speeds. Only issue I've seen is a buffeting at highways speeds in the presence of other large vehicles like trucks. As if turbulence causes some occasional buffeting. One of the best purchases I've made for hardtop. I plan to leave it on year round. I live in GA.

Do you ave a pic of the twill version? I have tried to find the difference in both but canā€™t seem to find a good comparison

It will be perfect when that sun shade comes out. PLEASE @BestopTeam , get this feature on the market before Spring!
Amen! The retractable sunshade has been promised since the JL version was first announced.

@BestopTeam Is this still in the works? If not, just let us know so we can stop hoping for it!

I wanted to hear from actual users about their experience.

1. What is the noise difference between the freedom panels and closed sunrider?

yes, you will notice additional noise initially but after a month or so you don't notice it anymore

2. Do you have any wind buffeting or flapping with the open sunrider?

Have not noticed that at speeds of up to 70 mph

3. Have you had any mounting issues or leakage issues?

NONE

4.Have you noticed interior temperature difference between the closed sunrider and the freedom panels?

yes, mine is garaged and when temps get down in the lower twenties I can feel the cold through the sunder. last winter I left the sunrider on this year plan to put panels on after Xmas...

If you are trying to decide to buy one, for me its a no brainer, YES, I use it everyday and takes less then 5 seconds to open or close...

Thanks for any replies, information.

One of the best mods so far, the Sunrider really is a gamechanger for the hardtop owners.

1. There is a bit more noise but it's really minor and after a few times opening and closing for the open air feeling, you will never notice it.
2. No wind buffeting or flapping that I have noticed. Even in high cross winds.
3. No issues. Mounting was simple and removal just as easy. No leaks.
4. No temperature differences that I've noticed and I had bought the Hothead Headliners.

A truly worthy purchase. IMHO

I think it depends on where you live. I just got my sunrider this week. It was still in the upper 80's here in tucson so I got a taste of what it will be like in the summer. It was quite a bit hotter in my jeep than with the freedom top on. On top of that, the hotter it got the more it smelled like gasoline. That is going away but it was pretty strong at the start. I dont see any way to keep this thing on in the summer, at least here in Arizona. I'm sure around June, I will be swapping out.

  • IMHO, there is no difference. The JL's have wind noise coming from the passenger side A pillar that will drown anything else out.
  • I close my Sunrider if I'm going to be traveling over 45 mph. I had multiple emails back and forth with Bestop regarding a speed limit to which the Sunrider can be open. They wouldn't commit to an answer.
  • I've had zero mounting or leak issues
  • I've noticed no temp difference. I remove the Sunrider and use the Freedom tops for the winter.

That being said, I LOVE my Sunrider, it's so easy to use. It was without a doubt one of the best upgrades I added to my JL.
Buy one.

I had it on my JKUR and loved it. They made it an easier fit for the JLUR and I love it more!
Never leaks. I canā€™t tell if itā€™s noisier than with the panels as it had the Bestop from the first. I can say itā€™s still a good quiet ride at up to 60 mph. itā€™s a pretty easy swap ... thereā€™s a YouTube of a lady installing it...first she removed it, easy

Thereā€™s definitely a difference in wind noise and ambient temperature compared to the freedom panels. I installed my sunrider this weekend and drove all over Long Island.

Having said that, it held up perfectly in the heavy rain yesterday and I absolutely love the convenience of it.
