I took my 2019 Jeep Sport S 2 door for warranty work. The little plastic piece that is in the rail frames of the drivers seat broke the first day I had the jeep, it is a common issue with the 2-D JL. I temporarily fixed the issue by inserting the broken piece back in and took the Jeep to the dealership to get it fixed properly (biggest mistake). They told me they had to order a new frame for the seat, so I took my Jeep home and told them to give me a call when they get the new frame. They never called, so a month or so later I called them and they said they had the frame. I took my Jeep to the dealership to get the job done and it took them 2 days to "replace" the frame, which means they were struggling. When I went to get my Jeep back tonight I checked the work and it doesn't seem like they replaced anything, in fact I found a broken piece of plastic in the driver's seat rails. So I go to check the passenger seat to check if maybe they replaced that by mistake and I realized they ripped the piece that lets you roll the seat forward so that people can get in the back. What pisses me off the most is that they didn't tell me, they called me and told me the Jeep was ready. My Jeep is still in the dealership because I wont take it back until they fix what they broke, then I am taking it somewhere else to get checked.

First of all. This shows the incompetence of the service department of another FCA dealership, they're so incompetent they don't know how to take the seat off. I took a vehicle with a minor issue and they give it back to me all manhandled. Secondly, looking at the latch mechanism Jeep put on the 2 door to pull the seat forward, it is the cheapest and thinnest plastic ever, what a terrible quality piece in such an expensive vehicle. I am very pissed, I should have my Jeep and be enjoying it. If anything mechanical happens to it and I have to take it to the dealership, I would obviously not take it to this one ever again, but still, I am going to be pretty worried, because the training these guys get is mediocre at best. I don't trust this dealership and I am seriously worried about damages that they could do to my Jeep.

The dealership in question is:

Sierra Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Monrovia, California. DO NOT GO THERE, they'll break your vehicle and wont even tell you. We should honestly write down a list of BAD dealerships because it is far too common, I've seen many posts around of people having these kind of issues with Mopar service. I used to have a Patriot that had an issue with the seat belt light being on all the time. I took it about 10 times to a dealership near Boston, they could never fix it....

I used to think about maybe buying an extended warranty and keeping my Jeeps awhile, but they seem to a 3yr/36K vehicle more and more. Nice vehicles, but who can fix them? I've got a broken part on my e brake handle I am dreading taking in to be fixed not to mention the ESS light being on all the time, cruise control that works only some of the time, and several instances of being completely dead for a few minutes when I try to start it which I am sure they will just brush off and tell me they cannot find anything wrong. Sad

I had the ESS light issue as well. For me it was an auxiliary battery issue, they were going to replace it. But I drove it and drove it and it stopped showing up, so I guess the battery charged and it is fine. Thank God, because if they replaced the aux battery I don't know what else they could have broken. Jeep is a nice vehicle but it has a lot of cheap plastic, flimsy parts. The 2 Door front seats are a nightmare. The must have manhandled the Jeep to rip off the piece, but when I took a look at it, it looks like it wouldn't take that much "manhandling" to break. The system to put the seat forward so that people can get in the back is badly designed, which is the reason why I took it in the first place. There is a tiny, very fragile plastic piece in the rails that allows the seat to go back to the normal position, if anything gets stuck in the rails that piece breaks very easily and then your seat can't go back to the normal position and you can't drive it. This happens often, there is a thread somewhere in this forum were people have had to have the Jeep towed because of that little plastic piece. What if this happens on a trail?.... my theory is that the dealership broke the passenger seat or didnt know how the system worked, so they manhandled it and broke it, I don't even know why they were messing with that seat anyway. At least call me and tell me it broke and youre fixing it, don't let me drive all the way there and hope I don't notice. Very unprofessional.

Check this post:

And the original reason I took the Jeep to the dealership:

https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/drivers-side-seat-wonā€™t-fold-back.27061/

It is a royal nightmare how they designed these seats. The piece in the rail should be metal, no reason for that to be plastic. And the seat release handles should be stronger.

I just called the dealership.

They told me they replaced the frame of the drivers vehicle and the broken piece of plastic I found was from the old frame. I honestly don't trust their word, but I'll take it.

As of the major issue of the broken seat release handle, they're claiming since they didn't work on that seat, they didn't break it. I wouldn't make this up, this is a new Jeep (2 months old) 2,500 miles. If I would've broken it, I would've told them and they would've noticed and told me. They need to take responsibility for this issue. They obviously broke it, they probably moved the passenger seat forward to get space to work on the driver's seat front frame. They're lying and that just pisses me off so much more.

Long story short, it seems like they don't want to take responsibility for it? I told them they had to, and he said he'd speak with his manager and return a my call. Unbelievable

Update:

They wont take responsibility for the issue and will fix it as a warranty problem. So I know this being a new vehicle it is under warranty, and I wouldn't have put the blame on them if it was my fault. I made that clear on our last call. They broke it. However, all I care is for them to fix it. They're obviously going to deny it since it is covered by warranty. So, since it is covered by warranty maybe I can just take it somewhere else?

Good news: they'll fix it
Bad news: Guess what, the part is on back-ordered as this appears to be a common issue. it is going to take them 3 WEEKS, for them to get the part.

@JeepCares is there any way to expedite this? I need to use that feature, my wife, I and my mother in law are taking the Jeep to Big Bear this weekend, and she needs to get in the back! she can still use the front seat I guess, but it is truly an annoyance. Anything on the works to get a more solid piece? since this is apparently breaking so often.

cal another dealer and see if they have the part, and or ask how long it will take them to get it.

That is exactly what I am going to do. Even if it takes them the same amount of time, I am taking my Jeep somewhere else. I was aware of the flimsiness of the release handle and I was always so gentle with it, and told everyone. My seat was in perfect condition, they broke it and they wont admit it. Not a trustworthy place.

Thank you @Jennalee. Yeah don't go there, I only went there because it is close to home. They're absurd, they even suggested somebody might have gotten in from the top, because my freedom panels were off (alien sunshade on). My alien sunshade is intact, there are 0 signs of anybody breaking in the Jeep, and nobody is going to get in my jeep and rip the handle off that's just absurd. They obviously did it to get space to work on the drivers seat.

I picked up my Jeep yesterday night. I inspected the frame on the drivers seat and it does look like they replaced it, the plastic broken piece I found was from the old frame they said. Since this is a warranty issue I will call another dealership and ask them today when they can fix it and if they can. I will try the one in Alhambra, they seem much nicer. I'll ask them to check the frame to make sure they actually replaced it.

I will also post pics tonight or tomorrow of the damage done by their techs.

@JeepCares they won't admit they broke it, but they did. I am 100% positive because my Jeep was intact when I dropped it at the dealership.

Whether they replaced the frame or not (which is their decision regardless of what they told you) does the front driver side seat work? If it does, wouldnā€™t that satisfy your initial issue?

With the broken passenger side piece unfortunately there is no way to prove they broke it. So just say to the SM ā€œOkay, well itā€™s broken, can you fix it also while you still have my Jeep?ā€

It doesnā€™t really matter in the end who broke it does it? Itā€™s all warranty work anyways.

They should take responsibility especially given that you know you didnā€™t break it but at the end of the day it should be warranty so just ask them to fix that as well and let it go is about all you can do or take return of your vehicle being that the issue you brought it in for is fixed and take it somewhere else to get the passenger piece fixed under warranty.

Best of luck

I feel bad for folks who have such negative experiences with dealers. I have had nothing but super great/positive experiences with my dealer who is super cooperative, the do the job right the first time and on time.

I don't understand in this day and age of multi-dealerships in a metro area how a dealership would so willingly alienate a customer.
