I was at Discount Tire a couple weeks ago because I had picked up a nail and screw in the tread of the tire, between 1/2" and 1" of the outer edge of the lugs on my KO2's. Note: I have 35k on these and probably less than a year to go on these tires before I replace them. The discount tire rep immediately told me that they were not repairable and would have to remove that tire from my vehicle because of Federal Law prohibiting the vehicle from being driven. I asked for a copy of the FEDERAL LAW and he said he didn't have to give it to me and that this could become a police issue.... Good thing I was parked in the parking lot. This is a few months after I took it in for a 5 tire rotation and they zipped off 4 tires didn't mark them, threw them in a pile and then just put them on the balancer, slapped a ton of extra weights on them because they didn't take the old weights off and then put them back on the Jeep in what ever position they wanted. Then when I objected they said they don't do 5 tire rotations and I would have to pay to balance the 5th one and extra to rotate it in. Luckily the Manager was in the back room and came out like a cannon shot, all employees in the bay and the conversation seemed pretty one sided. All ended well thought they played havoc trying to figure out where each tire belonged on the Jeep.

Two bad experiences at Discount don't negate all the awesome experiences I've had there, including them replacing a brand new tire with another one while my Jeep partially blocked their entrance. They drug the equipment and tire back and forth across the parking lot to the Jeep after I hit a 1" lag bolt and tore open the center of the tread exiting the parking lot. Do I think people screw up, get full of themselves, try for the quick sell, have a bad day, yes.

90% of disgruntled customers never complain to anyone, 10% complain and that's where customer service comes in. Will I go back to Discount tire for new tires, simply Yes, when it's time. Do I complain, yes. Do I let managers know when employees are doing awesome, yes. You can't fix a problem if you don't know about it.

I still have not been taken care of, I know the tires have hit the port. I spoke to the mile star rep at trail hero, but still no tire.
PM on it's way.

Ex-auto quality engr & mgt. Now just enjoy life.
I buy more tires than anyone else I know and I always buy from Discount Tire for a few reasons.
  • If I order online vs. buy in store, I don't have to pay sales tax and they ship to me free of charge = 9.75% savings.
  • They are competitively priced so I cannot buy cheaper locally.
  • Their flash sales occur often with significant savings.
  • There are usually several rebates on any given purchase.
  • The rebate process is easy and online.
I then take them to a local DT store and have them installed. So far, at least for the past ~20 sets of tires I have had installed they have not messed anything up. Most recent set was Memorial Day weekend for my wife's Cross Trek.
  1. Bought Michelin Defenders at $170 ea/680 set. Locally would've cost $746 with sales tax but saved $66 sales tax online.
  2. Flash sale saving was immediately $80 set. Now down to $600.
  3. Used my Discount Tire CC and got $40 rebate reducing price down to $560.
  4. Michelin rebate was another $70 which takes the price down to $490. Overall about a $256 or 34% savings for a set of tires.
The local DT store knows me well enough not to give me any grief about not buying them in the store and I still pay them for mount/balance/etc. And, again, they don't mess stuff up. So I will stick with them.

Thank you for taking the time to post up your past experiences 00Seddy. Our founder who started Discount Tire in 1960 as a one man operation that has turned into the largest independently owned tire/wheel dealer in the world always insists that we treat all our customers as we would our own family. The are times when things go wrong of course but we do our best to make it right.

Thank you for your business.

Ok, got a call from a very nice person at corporate, tires still not available to DT. I’d say my big issue is/was lack of communication. Just keep me informed, I understand you don’t make the tires. We will see what happens, I will update.....

Finally after all these months 37” milestar patigonia’s are back in stock. I’d like to thank Discount Tire for taking care of my situation.
I won’t go into detail, but I was well taken care of. Thanks to the corporate customer rep and my local store manager.
