Clicking noise when turning.

That's cool. They've been jerking me around since they opened that damn star case. Chrysler told me I could pay up front for a rental... They'd reimburse me $40 a day. Nothing around here is that cheap so I told them that wasn't happening

Damn that sucks I’m in a 2019 ram with the big Uconnect screen and a 5.7 for 35 a day here

I appreciate it, but I have little confidence in my dealer (or any others) at the moment. When I first went in to have it checked earlier this month, they weren’t really interested in what other dealers have tried and failed with based on this thread, and they wanted to keep it for the day so their tech could tear into it to see what’s going on. They had no interest in checking the castle nut torque either. Then they said the tech thought it might be a CV joint.

I can’t speak for others, but I’m not letting any tech start tearing parts off any of my vehicles when they have no idea what their looking for or where to even start looking in the first place. My concern was later confirmed when I had them install Rubicon suspension that they took off one of their stock units when they did a lift. I used them so the parts and labor would come with a warranty.

After installation, they tell me the tech test drove it and the click was gone, along with the "chirping canary" sound I hear every time I stop. I was hoping the new shocks and springs would maybe fix both issues, but no. The click was still there as soon as I backed up to leave, and the canary sound was there when I stopped. It actually clicks going in a straight line occasionally now too. He must have been blasting Metallica on his headphones when he test drove it.

Then I get home and start looking underneath to see if anything was loose, and I discovered the tech installed the bottom bolts on the rear shocks the wrong way with the long, threaded end facing the tires, so the minute you go off road even a little, the bolts would dig into the side wall. I’m no super mechanic, but crap. That’s basic common sense.

So then I took it to Les Schwab Tire to have them check the castle nut torque and turn those two bolts while they’re at it, and they claimed everything was torqued to spec. Didn’t look like they pulled the cotter pins though, so maybe that’s still the issue.

On top of that, my rear washer sprayer has leaked since new and partially stained the glass from the washer fluid, so the dealer recently replaced the sprayer under warranty but when that didn’t fix it, I got the infamous "they all do that" line. Unbelievable how some dealers assume customers are stupid.

I love my Jeep, but I’m losing patience with these issues and have been thinking about going back to Toyota. No vehicle is perfect and the Tacoma has its own little issues, but I put over 80,000 mechanically trouble free miles on my 2006. Hope it doesn’t come to that.....rant over.

Read the entire thread and proceeded to go out and tighten all 4 ball joint nuts on my 19 Sports S. So far so good ... no steering click

I had my dealership tighten the ball joints while they were performing the damper recall. They said the ball joints were all torqued to spec, but could hear the clicking as they rotated. They torqued them a little further, and so far i have not heard the clicking. It used to be very easy to replicate. I would just come to a stop, turn the wheel at least 50% to the left and accelerate normally. Click could be heard immediately. Clicking appears to be gone.

It’s surprising there isn’t a TSB/recall solution for this at this point. This is a really annoying issue.

I had my JLUR at 2 separate dealers. 1st dealer couldn’t find issue(claimed they tightened or checked all steering items)and opened a star case.

2nd dealer found ball joints no were near correct spec and other under torqued things. He adjusted to Jeep specs and it has Been over a week and no clicks at all.

I’m sure most here that have the clicks when turning is the Ball Joints, mine were loose even tho dealer 1 said they torqued them. I saw him adjust them...guess he didn’t adjust the them enough. If the clicks come back I’m going to request new ball joints....

Quick question for y'all; did you have clicks when turning the wheel both left and right? I have the same clicks as the one video I watched a few pages back but it only happens when I am backing out of my driveway with the wheel turned to the left. I haven't really had a chance to get under there and tighten anything up (honestly I'm totally new to Jeep and am more or less a youtube mechanic hah!) yet but am hoping to deal with it this weekend.

So my dealer finally got me a loaner and within 2 days "fixed" my Jeep. They told me they took the steering knuckle off and reassembled everything using factory torque specs. The noise is gone for now

Mine clicked left or right forward or reverse. Just 1-3 clicks when turning fairly sharply and at a slow speed. Since the ball joints have been torqued again the clicks have gone away....for now...

I had clicks coming from the drivers side when turning. Never checked passenger. I checked and tightened the lower ball joints and they were already torqued to spec, but the clicking continued. I installed the Mopar lift and the clicking went away.
