My responses:
These answers make me very sad. Custom modifications are what Jeepers do to their Jeeps...
Since FCA does not choose to even address this issue, bad people, once they figure this out, will simply buy a $1000 radio, say on eBay, and activate it, located the donor Jeep, and drive to it, unlock the doors, and start the Jeep and drive off. Do you even realize that while you can bury your head in the sand on this issue, it will be determined (or settled) by the courts that you will face a judgment once this happens? Simply saying there is no process for this does not get your off the so-called "hook" here.
All because you don't have a process in place to change VIN number without keeping the warranty. On a piece that we both know still has basically the same warranty. Let's just clarify that a dealership is not required to make a radio swap, it is literally 6 screws and 5 clips on the back of a radio and you're done. You do not need special FCA training for this.
I find it very odd that dealerships can no longer order any of these radios, and you do not seem to have any type of process for my issue. Could it be that FCA has recognized this issue and is working on a solution? I would like to hope so. Because you have stopped shipping radios to dealerships, which I asked about at the dealership parts dept, obtaining the unlock code for my 7" radio, FCA is creating a huge black market for these radios. Example, I posted my 7" radio for sale on these forums, and it sold in 4 hours because you can not buy them at the dealerships anymore. This problem is not going away, it will just keep growing and growing.
I hope my issue will help create a process that FCA can use. When and if it does, I would like to be notified so I can get my radio issues addressed.
Please forward me the information you wish to provide me that you believe can help me get the VIN number changed (for which you say there is no procedure for, then allude to the fact there might actually be one?)
Good luck JeepCares and I will post the information in our conversation on the forums because I believe this is important for Jeep owners to know about.
Jenn,
You wrote this: "This includes specific proper wiring harnesses, antennas, sensor feeds, cameras, etc. In most cases, the radios are designed to only be swapped for the same radio model."
You must know this is false information. There is absolutely no difference between the wiring harness and or any connections (antenna) between the 5", 7" and the 8.4" radio. The ONLY difference involves the missing LTE antenna needed for the 8.4" radio which is not needed unless you wish to use things like the wireless capabilities or uconnect functions. I did add the LTE antenna for my install.
