The AE version of the new JL steering gear box is now out - 68250506AE / 4 door. Previous versions where 68250506AC and 68250506AD. Confirmed with a Jeep dealer's parts department today. The 2 door steering box, which is different than the 4 door steering box, hasn't changed since last year.

That bulletin requires loose or wandering steering, doesn't say a word about "wobble" guess it would depend on dealer if they'll allow the stiffer version since it doesn't mention my issue?

Just got my V41 Customer Satisfaction letter for wobble in mail but doesnā€™t show on mopar site for my VIN yet. Build date 9/1/18. Oddly enough on way home last Tuesday night it was shimmying over bumps again. Timing! Damper originally replaced at 3800 miles under STAR case now got 12k on the clock. Guess weā€™ll see if this one lasts, Too bad some factory parts just donā€™t last nowadays.

I have a fairly early (April, 18) 2018 JLUR that has been rock solid. I've read a bit about the shimmy / death wobble, but have always been grateful my Jeep wasn't affected. ...until now. I have 18k miles on it and over the last couple thousand I've started noticing a shimmy/wobble in the steering wheel when going about 30-40mph through a turn and hitting some uneven pavement or bumps. This was the extent of my issues until a couple days ago. I was towing my boat, with my wife and kids in the car, and came to the same conditions I described... 30-35mph, slight left turn and some bumps in the road. This time it was what I would definitely consider a death wobble. Uncontrollable shaking of the steering wheel, the Jeep veered into the lane of oncoming traffic (thankfully without any cars there at the time) and I could not regain control until almost coming to a stop. I assumed pulling the extra weight of the boat had something to do with the increase from shimmy to death wobble. So, I called the dealer yesterday and they said it sounded like I needed the replacement steering damper. I asked about replacing the track bar and other components mentioned in this thread, but they said they would only do the damper now and that has seemed to fix the issue on almost all of the Wranglers they have seen. Obviously I realize, like everyone has said, that this is just masking the issue more than solving it, so is there any way to get the dealer to actually replace all the faulty parts without having to go back 3-4 times?

I echo this, I have play in my steering box. Is there any official document that recommends putting on the AE steering box? I am delaying installing a ram until I get my steering box replaced.

Open a case with Jeep Cares and indicate you feel it is unsafe until they replace the track bar with the version that has the stiffer bushings, drag link that has the re-enforced components, etc. Don't mention the boat part.

Can you tell me how to contact Jeep Cares?

Just picked mine up from dealer and even if I never had the problem they changed the steering damper anyway because of the recall. Took about one hour for me and was back on the road.

Hmm,interesting. I think some people on here are on their third or fourth one so it's probably another bologna temporary fix something else has got to be causing that damper to fatigue
