Its mind numbing how hosed up the dealer network is. I had my oil changed three times now, the first time complete overfill, second time to correct the overfill and they still overfilled, and then the third time a few weeks ago, I had to stand there and supervise the mechanic standing over him to make sure they only put 5 quarts in, he showed me on the machine that injects the oil, so finally got it right this time but had to stand over them and supervise. I also had a chat with the service manager about it who was completely clueless..... And to make it even worse, they still put 6 quarts of oil on the invoice ..... I didn't have to pay for it since it was free but just shows you how screwed up things are.
@JeepCares Here is yet another example on this issue. Does it really take an act of congress to #1 issue a dealer bulletin to tell the JLs are 5 quarts, not 6 quarts #2 update the dealer computer systems so it has the correct amount? Or have you, JeepCares, given up on dealers too? And aren't your techs and dealers supposed to go through training, or at least read the manuals?

Sitting at the dealer while they redo my oil change and 5 tire rotation (there was still Mark's on the tread from manufacturing).

Want it fine right, do it yourself.

I will do it for now on. 2 hrs at the dealer to save me $30 isn't worth it.

Yep and you feel better like you accomplished something yourself too. The less you have to rely on the dealer the better.

So now my process is to get the free change and go home and immediately pump the extra quart out through the dipstick tube. Its sad but the dealers are incapable of taking the issue seriously.

This happened to me at the first dealer oil change. I will be going to the dealer first thing in the morning. Any advice on what I should ask them to do and what they should check? I want to make sure thereā€™s no damage.

Why don't we publish a list of the dealers that are over filling the JL with oil, during the free oil tire rotation. When I get mine done(upon its delivery ),I will tell him or her personally that it will cost him or her dearly and will stand there and watch. You can see them here at my dealer, change your oil and rotate your tires. I don't think that is a problem at my dealer. I have purchased two prior Rubicons from them and been very happy with the dealer, and maintenance. Also put a note on the motor cover in red (5 quarts only). Be kind,polite but firm. Remember the squeaky wheel gets the most grease. Its amazing how cooperative they can be when you let them know you will see the GM. I personally seen an individual who was rude to a customer let go. I just do not understand how some one can be so stupid. Unbelievable!

You could make a larger list by calling random Jeep dealers, press the appropriate button for the service department, and ask them how many quarts of oil does a JL take. Then make a list of the ones that were right and ones that were wrong.

Does anyone have an official statement from Jeep or a notice that can be pointed to in order to help correct this? My dealership doesn't believe me even after I showed them the owners manual said 5 qts along with a dipstick with oil above the fill line on the cable itself. They refuse to look anything up and instead are using anecdotal statements that say all 3.6's are the same and take 6 qts. I guess they don't see the addition of start/stop or the fact that the JKs took 5w-20 instead of 0w-20 to constitute a change. This is really frustrating.

Glad I thought of that. Just kidding, great idea.

Add Nyle Maxwell Jeep in Austin to the list. Had to drain a quart when I got home after waiting 2 hours to get an oil change at the "Express Lane".

@JeepCares help us out here!?

Coop, what motor do you have? That dipstick is not like mine for the 2018 3.6.
Yep, that's not like my 2019 3.6 either.

Still not sure why anyone would go to the dealer for oil changes after all this glaring evidence that they are still mostly clueless, but whatever.
