When was the last time you changed your oil and how many quarts did you add?

Last oil change was June 18, was a freebie at the dealer, I'll have to dig for the paperwork to find out how many quarts they put in. Checked level last night when I discovered this and level was good, with the amount of oil outside the engine it seems possible that it could've been overfilled. Thanks for the question, I'll definitely look for the paperwork before my appt tomorrow.

Don't take it to the Dealership even if it is a freebie. I keep reading about dealerships putting too much oil in the engines. Try to avoid the dealerships if at all possible.

Could be a front crank shaft seal. Among other things I’m sure.

That was my first thought. There's oil too far up the block for it to just be a pan gasket leak.

The other possibility is a cracked oil filter housing. That was a pretty common problem on these engines for a while. They've gotten it mostly fixed now, but it still could occur. Especially if the technician over-torqued the cap when he replaced the filter. All that stuff is plastic and the proper torque is printed on the filter cap.

I have read a lot of posts on various forums about dealerships overfilling the oil on engines by at least a quart or more. Are they intentially trying to cause problems for the consumer to get them to come back and have their engines fixed by the dealership? That's my question....
