@JeepCares , I scheduled a Jeep Wave oil change and tire rotation at Normandin Jeep in San Jose CA. First they tell me the Jeep Wave allowance isn't enough and I need to pay an additional $50. I called Jeep Wave, they called the dealer and worked something out (not sure exactly what, but I didn't pay anything). I told the service adviser the following:

1) Five tire rotation. The spare is already removed from the carrier and in the back of Jeep (make it easy for them since I have an aftermarket bumper/carrier).

2) 35 psi in the tires. Don't fill them to the door tag 39 psi.

3) Five quarts of 0W-20 synthetic oil.

Here's what I got:

1) Four tire rotation. Spare wasn't touched, it was still sitting in the back of the Jeep.

2) 39 psi in all four tires.

3) Six quarts of synthetic blend with no other specification. I checked the oil level and it was over filled.

Anybody know a good dealer in the SF bay area? I really liked Fremont, but their service manager and much of the team recently left. I'm not sure how they are now.

Just ask @cosine he knows!
Free oil changes sure cost a lot around here, I'm sticking to DIY, much cheaper IMO!

Hi vavaroutsos,
Thank you for reaching out and explaining the experience you've had with your dealer. We certainly understand your frustration. If you would like to locate a different dealer for future appointments, you can enter your zip code here to view all certified Jeep dealerships in your area: https://www.jeep.com/find-dealer.html. If you see any dealerships that have received a Customer First award this means that this dealer has achieved the highest level of customer experience recognition in five core areas: people, facility, processes, customer metrics and training certification. If you ever have any questions or concerns during a service appointment feel free to send us a PM for assistance!

Why don't you reach out to the dealer and notify them of their negligence instead of making people find a another dealership.
This is chronic, not isolated.

It's a too common practice in the majority of companies today.... first page , first rule of all company handbooks, "Pass the buck"

Lydia, thanks for the info. However, I checked all 30 dealers that came up and not one of them had a Customer First award. I thought I was missing something, so I checked in the SoCal area and did see some dealers with the award, but that's 400 miles away. I think FCA has a serious problem with dealer service quality.

Of course you’re right Brad, but considering that this is service that we’ve all already paid for in the purchase price of the Jeep, the service should be honored and done competently. It’s not a “favor” that the dealership is doing us as customers. They’re providing us what we pay them for.

Also, some people don’t have the time, ability, desire, or place to DIY like a lot of folks. Once upon a time the dealership’s service department was thought of as the gold standard for service and maintenance work. They certainly charge that way. So people expect competent service. This isn’t the first month or two of the JL. This has been an ongoing problem for over a year that’s not being addressed.

I’ve got a power train warranty that requires that service be performed at a shop, it doesn’t allow for DIY. So if I want to maintain it I’ve got to comply with that. Why should I pay out of pocket to get an oil change from Joe Blow’s Jeep Shop when I’ve already paid FCA for the first 4 oil changes? Just do it right Jeep! It’s really not even difficult.

Because every Jeep since the AMC days has taken 6 quarts of oil. Most CJs, and all YJs, TJs, and JKs took 6 quarts. Old habits die hard.

You know what dealer won't fuck up an oil change? Me, in my driveway. That's who.

I agree! Just changed mine in the Rubi on Monday and loved it! Took my time and felt free knowing I didn’t have to rely on the dealership and could do it myself. Awesome feeling of accomplishment! Last time I let my dealership change my oil was when I had my 2017 Sahara. Kid spilled oil all down the engine and proceeded to spray it down with a power washer. Instrument panel lit up like Christmas! I went ape shit in the whole place and they had to calm me down. Unreal! He fried all the O2 sensors and they had to keep the Jeep a week to fix it and get it back to normal. So I’ll do the little things myself and only go to the dealership for big things. Dealerships suck!

Yes, jeep waves customer service needs to contact the dealers about this oil problem. “Find another dealer” is not a solution.

This has been happening since I purchased my Jeep JL in February 2018. I have 1 more "free" oil change that I have politely declined. I have 5 quarts of Penzoil Platinum 0w-20 I'll just do myself so I know it's done right...

I won't let a dealer touch my ride except for warranty work.

I don’t follow your logic. You won’t let the dealership touch tour ride to do the simplest, almost impossible to screw up basic maintenance function, but you let them tear into your engine, transmission, or electrical system? Since that’s much more crucial, why not DIY that too?

Surprised you even asked that question, frankly. Under warranty, if a defect is discovered FCA has the responsibility to fix it or get me a new ride or buyout. They can tear away all they want. After my warranty is up there is NO reason to take it to the dealer. There is a lemon law. Also, I would hope if they needed to tear apart my engine I would have Star on the case or AN ACTUAL MECHANIC vs. the oil crew. I CAN CHANGE MY OIL. Obviously, many dealers oil tards can't. The key is to have as few dealer 'touches' as possible. Again, I'm sorry that you aren't able to follow logic but that isn't my fault.
