That's awesome! Had I had known, i might have waited to see if factory prices drop. If my 8.4 upgrade ever fails/brakes then I'd probably try aftermarket and at that point probably swear by them with this actually being my first factory upgrade. Radios have came a long way since the last car owned 2003 with a 6"ish JVC aftermarket.
This aftermarket radio is supposed to cost $2,400 for an aftermarket. I will stick with the 8.4".

Also, I am attempting to involve @JeepCares in helping cut though the red tape and assist with the upgrade of my 7" radio to the 8.4". I have the same problem as you right now, and have added the LTE antenna. I registed with my work email, and can see the other jeep with the apps when I log in. So, that does imply to me that something unique in the radio is tied in with some db at Mopar/Jeep/Uconnect. I can not see this being controlled at all by Siruis but they do have a part, as when I called last night to switch my XM radio to the new ID, she basically added an entire new jeep to my profile. It was a complete waste of time trying to explain it to the lady what I was doing.

This is a very interesting issue Mopar will be facing. I can see the need for security, as you can open doors and start the engine, but what is worse right now, is there is no process in place to address these types of upgrades. And they will happen. The 5" radio is a dog... And the 8.4" sounds much better than the 7" radio does.

Jeep are you listening? Lets figure this process out :)

Is there two versions of the 8 inch, one w/NAV and one with out? Do both come with the offroad pages?

I have read that the one without NAV appears to be used mostly in Europe..

@JeepCares I have read your reply, which did not even address my issue, but I replied with a more thorough answer to your concern about getting a "free" warranty which I did not even bring up in my original message.

Jenn, why is it so difficult to just go to a dealer and buy the 7" or the 8.4" if we want to pay for the upgraded unit why is it such an issue?

The main reason Jenn is throwing this roadblock in front of me is because I bought my 8.4" from another Jeep forum member. She is claiming that the Warranty cant be transferred, which the word warranty wasn't even mentioned in my request to her. I don't care about the warranty, but instead of making it about my ability to activate the UConnect feature through the radio that now allow me to control the Jeep I purchased the radio from, she wants to derail the amazing security hole and lack of procedure to swap VIN numbers in a DB, she is choosing to make it about needing an unasked for warranty.

The idea that I can locate, then unlock and start the vehicle I got the radio from is not her primary concern. Instead of being concerned about the safety and security of a purchased Jeep, she is concerned about me wanting a completely unasked for Warranty on the 8.4 radio. My reply to her again tried to explain this fact to her.

This boils down to creating a procedure to swap radios between jeeps and moving VIN numbers between them, with or without Warranty.

An amusing side note was the fact that I called UConnect on my way to the dealership, waited on hold to be told by the rather rude UConnect lady, that I could only take my Jeep to the dealership to get this issue of a VIN swap fixed. Well, just so happened as she said that I pulled into the dealership.. So instead of asking for my unlock code for my 7" radio, the real reason I was at the dealership, I walked in, explained to the parts person my issue, and was explained back that they cant even order the radios anymore, much less have any procedure for a VIN swap... Walked back out to my jeep... She hung up... lol

Basically Jeep created this mess themselves, and want to convince ME (and/or US) that it is our fault this is happening..

I asked the lady while driving to the dealership this question. What if I have a defect in my 8.4" radio, and take it to the dealership to be replaced, how does the dealership go about updating the VIN # so my UConnect function works properly... Trapped, she replied, the dealership would have to contact us to make that swap if they were having trouble. So the answer lies in the way you ask the question. I need to contact the UConnect people, but because Im not the dealership, they will not help me. The whole thing was comical, and very sad...

Also, the UConnect lady claimed the VIN number is IN the radio. This part I doubt... I do believe there is some unique number in the radio (I would use the IMEI number personally) that when it connects to the UConnect db that has the VIN number the functions then work, such as ORPs. See, I activated my UConnect account using the email feature.. This gave me access to the donor Jeep to control its functions, but not my Jeep. Now my account is active, but the radio still doesnt show it as active... 2 days have gone by, and I still have the activation screen, even though Im completely active.
I seriously doubt Sirius has the ability to control anything in this DB, they prob have some type of read only access to it, but if they had the ability to change the db, this would/could create a very large additional security (or warranty issue as Jenn believes) issue.
I think as a group, we should work on UConnect and Jeep to try to get our answer.
Keep the pressure on, this has to be solvable...
Sorry for being long winded, but there is alot of info here and in this thread that can save people alot of trouble, and possibly provide some, outside the box, thought process...

I have read the post concerning the radio upgrade by buying a used radio that has already been branded by the VIN of a different Jeep, those seem to be quite serious. I read one post that the radio came from a Jeep that was still on the dealer lot, not quite sure how that could happen.
What I don't quite understand why Jeep will not seal a brand new unit that has not been branded and that could be branded with the VIN of the Jeep the unit would be newly installed in.
I hope at some point this can be resolved, I have owned my new 2019 less then a month, and only found out about the radio issues after I purchased. I should have done more research on the radio issue. I had specific needs and wants for the new Jeep, and the one I bought fits, with the exception of the radio. I did not want to wait to order.

There seems to be a real need/want to upgrade the 5" radio.

I am one of those persons.

k1hog,

I would upgrade to a 7" radio. You should have none of the issues that the 8.4" radio presents.

Jeepcares answers to my concerns about the VIN, notice how the security of being able to control the other vehicle is never addressed.

Hello Lance,

To clarify, as you have modified your vehicle our team along with our technicians are limited in our options of assistance. As the radio you installed in your current vehicle came directly from another vehicle, I cannot make any guarantees regarding the functionality of this modification. I will happily connect you with a Uconnect Specialist regarding this VIN swap inquiry.

Please know, the radios that go into vehicles from the factory are configured specifically for the vehicle into which they are installed. This includes specific proper wiring harnesses, antennas, sensor feeds, cameras, etc. In most cases, the radios are designed to only be swapped for the same radio model. I have spoken to internal experts regarding this and they confirm we are unable to swap the VIN associated with your radio. Custom modifications to vehicles, including radios, are simply not endorsed nor supported by FCA, therefore, there is no process in place to address what you are requesting. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
