Maybe you refer a hot wire that the energizes the vanity mirror or, if you have it (I don't) the higher end rear view mirror. I agree!
Yep. I don't have the rear view mirror but it's the wire for the vanity mirror.

Minor issue that's been bugging me... I connect my iPod with a USB cable to listen to music in my JL, but every time I get back into the Jeep I have to reconnect it by unplugging it and plugging it back in. In other words, the iPod doesn't stay connected after turning Jeep off, even though it's plugged in. Is there a remedy to this?
Hi Carolina88,
We can imagine why this may be frustrating. We recommend having your dealer look into this for you. If you would like any additional assistance, please feel free to send us a private message and we'll be happy to help!

It is most likely defaulting to another USB port. Click on the media button on the display, then select the USB port it is plugged into and it will work.

Does anyone know if the Bestop Sunrider will work with a roof rack that extends to the freedom panels?

My husband drove my JL to work today because his car was at the audio shop. He called me after work and said the Jeep wouldn't start. He was getting the "key fob not detected" message and pushed the start button with the fobā€”nothing. He tried and tried to start it and no luck.

I had to walk to pick up his car and drive to meet him with my Jeep fob. When I got in with my fob and pressed start, it went into accessory mode. I had to press start again for it to start.

Any thoughts?

As an aside, if you think your JL doesn't steer well, don't drive a 981 with sport suspension just before driving your Jeep ;)

I think this is what your looking for Keith.

As a Bestop Sunrider owner who happens to have it installed right now, do realize that the product not only takes up the entire footprint, but no more, where the Freedom Panels previously resided, but when opening the Sunrider product, a roof rack that extends (right up to) where the rear most portion of the Freedom panels resided, and now the Sunrider Product does, may get in the way of, if not opening the Sunrider product, then opening it adequately enough to remain open. Pictures of your setup might be useful here.

Of course when the Sunrider product opens, it takes up a greater amount of roof real estate than the Freedom Panels, taken up space over the from of the big back portion of the hard top.

How close does your forward most portion of the roof rack come to where the Freedom Panels reside? How close to the hard top does your rack come/i.e. how low a profile is the rack? These might be variables that affect your ability to open the Sunrider product successfully in your setup.

Battery could be dead in the one fob. Or not - mine has acted goofy like that a couple times. Even if the battery is dead, if you hold the fob right next to the start button it should work.

What happens, now that you got the JL started with the fob you walked over to him to help him out, with the fob your hubby had? Does it still no work?

Will that fob your hubby had open and lock the doors if in fact equipped as such (some Sport model fobs are buttonless?) When he pushed the vehcile's start button with the fob did he have the front of the fob touching the start button?

Even if the fob your hubby had has as a battery, the tiny circuitry inside, near the fob's tip doesn't depend upon the fob battery:

Sometimes, if I open the doors with my fob and hang out in my driveway for a time, I have to repress the open door button again so I can start my JL as the vehicle appears to have "timed out" given the length of time between my first unlocking the doors and attempting to crank the engine.

He tried all the sides of the fob against the button (he had plenty of time waiting for me to get there). He thought that maybe the JL fob and the fob for his car being in his pocket caused interference, so he moved his fob out of the Jeep.

I have the doors off now.

We tried the fob he had when we got home and it worked fine. It was an odd thing for sure.

Julie, pardon the serious but seemingly stupid question in light of the new data you provide.

Was you husband seated in the driver's seat when trying to crank the engine? It may have nothing to do with it, but if I'm not mistaken the Auto Park safety feature, which normally takes its que from a door that's attached but open, defaults to weight on the driver's seat in absence of doors attached.

Not to split hairs but I'm not certain if the door merely attached to the rig is cue enough to the JL that the door is in fact on its hinges. It may be the connection of said door to its electronic harness--provided all models (e.g. the Sport) even has this harness. I want to guess yes it does, as some electric may be powering the side mirror adjustment even on this stripped down JL.

Good luck.

He was in the front seat, and not a stupid question at all.

I have trial doors and mirrors on, so no electronics there. I did see a video that said that sometimes the signals get messed up when the doors are off. Interesting.

My wife had the same problem with her Cherokee. She has proximity locks, that part worked, but no fob detected when trying to start. Pushing the start button with the fob didn't work either. When she tried the second fob, it worked. Later when she got home from work, her fob was working again.

@Rahneld, she doesn't know how long it was after opening the doors before she tried to start, but we will keep in mind your experience of a long delay between opening and starting being a possible cause.
