For me this is the best way to remove the hard top. The scaffold is nice and sturdy. Easy to move around and lock with the wheels. My wife is 5ft and she had no problem moving it on the scaffold with me on the other side. Thank you again to the OP and everyone who contributed.

Does it take two people to remove the hard top with the scaffolding solution, or can one person go back and forth, side to side and remove it?

I just did it for the first time and used my brother for help. Thinking once I get comfortable I may try to get in the back section and lift up from inside the Jeep and slowly move it forward onto the scaffold. Hoping to be able to do the whole process on my own.

It’s a 2 person job. If you have someone who can help, you will find this solution very helpful. For anyone looking to do it solo, this is realistically not the solution for you.

Actually, I'm able to do it solo, albeit differently. I also jumped on the scaffold bandwagon, but I screwed some eyehooks into the garage ceiling and used some cam straps to lift the top off a few inches. Drove the jeep out and then rolled the scaffold under it. Lowered it onto the scaffold quite easily then rolled the whole thing into my shed for storage.

Did it today. The top is amazinly light compared to the JK hardtop.

Thanks OP! This is a great idea....

So, anyone do this solo? I've heard getting in the back of the jeep, raising it on back and slowly walking it out on the scaffolding. Anyone do this?? Thanks.

If you had a tire delete it would be possible....not so much with the tire in the way.

It can certainly be done solo , that’s one of the great features of this idea. I used the op’s advise
“Back glass open to slide it back over the spare , then close it to center the weight properly once its on the platform”. Lift the top with your back. I’m solo and in my 50’s It’s pretty easy.
Like a book it’s best to read theses threads starting from the beginning post 1 not page 8. I know this is very uncommon sense as it happens on most subjects in most threads.

OP, awesome idea! I finally decided to do this over the weekend and am so glad I did. I need to rearrange the garage for a better spot, but the fact that the scaffolding has wheels makes this so useful.

Even better is the fact that it is not a single purpose item....I've got plenty of uses for a scaffolding or a portable bench when the top is not on it. The fact that it breaks down without tools and can be stored easily is just another bonus!

This inspired me to come up with something similar/easier. I already had the smaller 4’ scaffold from Home Depot. The 6’ needs to money shot between the rungs and strap down. My wife helps me remove so I do not trust her to fit on the 6’. I put 4 tennis balls on the posts for protection. Simply set on scaffold and balances perfect with no need to strap down.

I am so glad I saw this thread. Our garage ceiling is really high and has a pitch in part of it for the roof line, etc., so the hoists weren't an option and we have so much we want to do to our Jeep that I really didn't want to fork out the top lift pro money, was considering the freedom jack, but we're going to jump onto the scaffolding bandwagon too! Thanks for the idea and all the great pictures everyone!
