Just bought and installed a steel bumper for my JLUS. I noticed that there’s an odd gap between the back of the bumper and front of the grille (near where a winch would go)

I’ll try to attach a photo as soon as I can, but wanted to reach out first and see if anyone has any tips or ideas why this might be.

Thanks in advance

There’s about 1.5inch ish back gap between the bumper and grill. The factory installed steel bumper has a plastic gap piece that makes it look inline, but look at anyone who’s installed a winch, that piece isn’t there, you need to pop it out, it just snaps in. If you wanted to close that gap I’m sure you can find someone who no longer needs it since they have a winch and just pop it in

I took these photos from a winch install thread on here, the first one you can see the black trim piece I’m talking about, the second two you can see it’s no longer there since it has to be popped out for a winch. I’m assuming that’s what you were talking about

That’s exactly what I’m talking about, that trim piece has a gap between the steel bumper and edge of the trim itself. I don’t have a winch

Walked by a JLUR on the lot today and it looked flush with the steel bumper

I installed the steel bumper on my Sahara and had to buy the plastic piece that is designed for the steel bumper to eliminate the gap. The plastic piece that comes on the Sahara will work but it does not look right. That plastic piece cost me around $25 from a dealer.

That’s because you’re supposed to stick a winch in there.
