It's alive! Caught while testing in Auburn Hills, the Jeep Wrangler 3.0L EcoDiesel is finally becoming a reality. According to Jeep, only the Wrangler Unlimited models will offer the 3.0L EcoDiesel V6 as a powertrain option.

The updated version of the 3.0L EcoDiesel will be rated at around 260 horsepower and 442 lb.-ft of torque. It will also feature Engine Stop-Start (ESS) technology on all EcoDiesel models. Power will be mated to a ZF sourced 8-speed automatic transmission. This newest updated EcoDiesel will feature new turbo technologies such as low-friction bearings, low-friction pistons, new injector nozzle design, piston bowl and more.

We expect the diesel JL Wrangler will go on sale in Q4 of this year.

Might get one if it's faster and more fuel efficient. The v6 is great but love diesels in trucks and suvs.

I hate to see the tanks where they are sitting. I am pretty sure that will be a spot that drags.

Thinking the same thing. The diesel has 25 less hp, but the torque is fu*king insane! Curious to see how fast it feels.

If this would've been available in a 2 door and a manual I would've waited for sure. I love diesels. Had a 2014 TDI Jetta and a 2015 TDI Golf. Those diesels were sweet! But I wanted a 2 door and a manual so I went with the 3.6 Liter Gasoline engine a few months ago instead.

And it costs....$5-6k?, Iā€™m guessing?
Pass. I came to my Jeep after 20 years running Cummins 1-tons.
Working them. I love diesel trucks, if you need ā€˜em.
Did. Donā€™t now.
Diesel Jeep, with fuel 15% higher than gas in a tiny little 4500# vehicle?
Why?

Because...you will be able to crawl straight up a building. Every Firecracker diesel will be nicknamed "SpiderJeep", every Mojito! "Gecko", every HellaYella "Ugly". OK, the HellaYella comment was uncalled for, but you get my point.

CAFE standards. Same reason they're going to make a plug in hybrid and why the 2.0 has a ton of batteries. I think the 3.6 will be going away not long after the diesel comes out, maybe end of 2020 or 2021. I just don't see a wrangler having more than 3 engine options and they would get rid of the least fuel efficient (by EPA standards).

I'd trade in and pay $5K for a factory V8 though! :)
