everyone...set your tire pressure manually with a gauge in the morning while they are cold to 35psi.

Drive around for 30 mins and tell me what tpms or manual hand gauge reads thereafter.

Then come back here and tell me how stupid I am

And what does the tire manufacturer say?

Please quote

BF Goodrich says check them cold - https://www.bfgoodrichtires.com/help.page
Bridgestone says cold -https://www.bridgestonetire.com/tread-and-trend/drivers-ed/how-to-check-tire-pressure

Discount Tire says cold - https://www.discounttiredirect.com/learn/check-tire-pressure
Good Year says cold - https://www.goodyear.com/en-US/tire-guide/tire-care/how-to-check-tire-pressure

I check tires cold and warm. Just subtract 3 to 4 PSI when they are warm to try to reach the desired PSI.

READ THE VERY FIRST LINE!!!

it says check psi COLD TO AVOID UNDERINFLATION!!

Because when they get cold they loose pressure.

You are TOTALLY misunderstanding the instructions.

If the recommended tire pressure is 37psi make sure you check them cold so they read 34(ish)

It also states to not overinflate above max pressure while cold because they will increase in pressure once warm.

Again!!, if you set your target preferred psi cold then once you drive off and warm the tires your tires psi will increase sometimes by 5 points.

This is hilarious

I set them cold. I set them like everyone else is suggesting here, about 3 PSI lower than I want to run, due to air expansion from heat while driving. The reason this is best is because my air compressor isn’t pumping out hot air. Pumping cooler air into a warm tire kind of defeats the whole set while warm purpose. It also ensures my cold setting isn’t too low.

Yes I check psi while warm as well, but that’s not my first choice. Honestly you can do it either way as long as you take into account whether it’s cold or warm. It’s not that difficult, just handle as you need to per the situation you are in.

The spec'd pressures are cold pressures. No sun, no driving, etc. They are spec'd that way knowing that the pressure will increase to different pressures based on the type of driving.

JL Owner's Manual (Emphasis mine) said:
The tire pressure will vary with temperature by approximately 1 psi (7 kPa) for every 12°F (6.5°C). This means that when the outside temperature decreases, the tire pressure will decrease. Tire pressure should always be set based on cold inflation tire pressure. This is defined as the tire pressure after the vehicle has not been driven for at least three hours, or driven less than 1 mile (1.6km) after a three hour period. The cold tire inflation pressure must not exceed the maximum inflation pressure molded into the tire sidewall. Refer to “Tires” in “Servicing And Maintenance” for information on how to properly inflate the vehicle’s tires. The tire pressure will also increase as the vehicle is driven. This is normal and there should be no adjustment for this increased pressure.

"Heat Generated While Being Driven Extensively (or at sustained speeds greater than 45 mph).* Set 6 psi above vehicle manufacturer's cold inflation recommendations."

This is from Tire rack I think

The key word is cold**

Your misinterpreting the instructions

So if they recommend 30psi cold then make sure you set it at 36psi when they are warm. This means they will fall to 30 cold and reach 36 after driving.

Replace those numbers with your own with the example of 36psi being your target.

???

Not one person here suggested that.

In fact, that's exactly what they are not understanding.

But thank you, your right.

However, adjusting cold is more of a guessing game than just adjusting while they are warm.

Correct. Setting it warm is really bad. It will increase as you drive, even on cold days.
This makes no sense...if they are already warm(after driving warm not ambient)they wont increase any much more in pressure.

You have it ass backwards.

If I set it while they are warm the psi will not go any higher

If I set them cold then the psi will rise upon warming

It does feel that way
You dont set your target psi when your tires are cold.

You set your target psi after you have drivin and warmed the tires

If you set your target psi while they are cold driving will increase tire pressure above what you want your target to be.

PERIOD.

How do you determine your target (driving) pressure?
I start the jeep my tpms reads 32 all 4

I drive 30mins to work, once there tpms reads 35

35 is what I want my target to be

So to maintain 35 I always check and adjust while tires are warmed up knowing psi wont increase anymore.

When cold, the psi in the tires will fall so that number doesnt matter, what matters is the pressure within the tire once the tire has been drivin and warmed up
