Have a JLUR- auto. The stutter is not isolated to those with manual transmissions for sure. I haver or 11K miles and have been trying to isolate when it how it happens. So far only when accelerating at a slow pace. Punching it no problem. Also notice higher occurrence when its cold out. Not sure what the issue is. It was not initially this way...it crept in about 3K and has gotten worse.
Will be having it looked at next service...coming up soon.

Just curious which gears and RPMs youā€™re experiencing studder, etc.? Iā€™ve noticed similar behavior in my JLUR M/T on occasion, but Iā€™ve generally chalked it up to being in the wrong gear/rpm band for conditions.

The only time I get a bucking issue is when trying to maintain a steady RPM (under 1500 RPM) in 1st gear.

My JLUR is automatic and Iā€™ve got the studder and throttle lag first time I start it up and take off when the engine is not completely warmed up. At normal operating temperature itā€™s normal. Would have to agree as others have said itā€™s the oem tune. It sucks. Whatā€™s bad is Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep has locked the pcm so you cannot buy an aftermarket tuner kit from diablo or other tuner companies to retune other than probably a pedal commander. But the Jeeps definitely need to be retuned. Iā€™m betting they are crap tunes due to emissions.

Agreed with the above statement. The jeep seems to idle very low (200 RPM ?) presumably for fuel efficiency. When the engine is heat soaked, AC is on and there is no apparent power from the engine below 2000 rpm its a recipe for rough take offs. Add in a clutch that you have to get used to (aka. it feels and behaves unnatural) and a lag from the lack of throttle response and it can be difficult to drive / commands much more attention than it should.

I for one would love a engine tune that returns power to the bottom end, bumps up idle and sharpens the throttle response.

I also see a very odd behavior around 3k rpm in 3rd gear. If you stay in 3rd gear at that rpm for any amount of time, there is a strange stutter as well.

@JeepCares if you want to do anything, talk to the engineers and share this common problem with them. I am sure it is related to emissions, but there should be a compromise between efficiency and performance.

I decided to day to fill up with Premium gas. The stutter seems to always come during and upshift. Sometimes it happens to quickly and almost skips a gear...other times it just stutters not knowing what to do. Mostly under 2000 rpm and usually 2nd and 3rd gear for me.

What I found interesting was with this tank of Premium (Chevron is what I use) all my shift points changed. Its normally difficult for me to get into 8th gear on certain parts of the 10 freeway where there is a slight incline and my RPMS might be under 2000. Well, with Premium, the stutter was reduced drastically and my shift points changed so that it managed to get into 8th gear with ease. Because of that, my mpg went up drastically. The typical stutter between 2nd and 3rd for the most part vanished.

The only thing I can think of at the moment is that the regular gas might have been causing knocking and the computer sensed and modified the shifting or even got confused when to shift. I certainly don't want to be putting Premium in so I am hoping tuning will solve this.

Hi Litfuse,

Thank you for sharing this experience with us. To properly document, we use the VIN of the vehicle. Please send us a PM with your VIN, mileage, and concerns so that we can ensure this is notated in our systems.

On a lot of mopar products you can calibrate the throttle through the HUD. I used to do it in my 14 challenger but I can't remember the procedure

Thank you to the OP for starting this thread - I had wondered if others had experienced this issue as well. I have an ā€˜18 JLUS auto that I purchased in January this year. I noticed within the first week or two that there was lag at low RPM. At first I thought I was just imagining it, but then I paid more attention and I believe the lag is occurring most noticeably in the 1300-1700 RPM range. Itā€™s mostly an annoyance, but I sure do wish that I had better throttle response at the low end. Not sure that there is anything my dealer can or will do to remedy this. I guess maybe just wait it out and hope for a TSB to address this?...

First post on the forum and first time Wrangler owner (I had a '98 Cherokee for years). I've had my 2018 Wrangler JLUS (auto) just over a month and noticed early the stutter at around 20-35mph at 1100-1500 RPM. Interestingly, my wife noticed the stutter sitting in the passenger seat as well. It is very mild and intermittent - the kind of thing that can't be recreated at the dealership when you bring it in for service - but it is annoying. I thought I would post to add to the documentation for @JeepCares that this condition also exists in automatic transmissions. A disappointing start to a vehicle that I was very excited to purchase.

Curious if anyone had any update on this issue? This studder is really starting to drive me crazy. I really want to love my Jeep but between this and the shitty steering I'm almost at wits end. Has anyone tried disconnecting the battery to see if there is any throttle adaptive relearning that is associated with the jerkiness? Seems like a mapping issue, almost like it starts to miss or pull timing at a certain rpm (1500-1800) at a certain throttle angle. I have learned to drive around it but its foolish this cannot be fixed via tune through a TSB.

Iā€™ve been ranting about this for months. No fix from FCA, so I put my Jeep up for sale because of it. For me, it takes away the pleasure of driving my wrangler.
