Any updates on this? My wire is snapped off as well. Is the solution still to replace the glass? I can go through with that through warranty if necessary, but it seems like it would be easier to just get some conducting epoxy and attempt a DIY? But I don’t want to do that and then have my warranty claim denied if it doesn’t work you know?

I just took my JL into the dealership with the failed connection to the rear window defroster. The dealership called later and told me they don't repair the connection but will replace the window under warranty. They said the new window would be delivered to the dealership tomorrow. That's quick. It must still be an ongoing issue. Has anybody had the connection on the new window fail.

No one can explain why they are replacing the rear window. The problem, whatever it is has not been fixed on a factory level. Hence, why the replacements are still having the same problem occur. I opted for the fix. My dealer shopped these issues out to a small glass shop up the street from them and they fixed with it epoxy method. It looks factory and has not popped off since (fingers crossed)..... It sure beats dealing with the dealer and appointments and my vehicle being down for 2 days or waiting due parts, blah blah blah... or some shit. If they correct the problem in the process at the factory, than the replacement glass makes perfect sense. But until then, the repair is the way to go........ IMHO

My dealer would not order a back glass, so I just re-soldered the button myself, took all of 6 min and I didn’t have to leave it for 2 days to have someone else do it from the glass shop

LOL. I didn't even drop it off at dealer (it would have sat half the day, got to the glass shop late, without the proper work order, blah, blah, blah) so I took it straight to the little shop, dropped it off told the dealer to fax them the info they needed and picked it up a couple of hours later (the epoxy just needed to set up). I hate dropping my shit off at the dealer, for anything!

Update to original post. Didn't get the rear window replaced when first expected. Dealer told me it was damaged in shipping. It has now been a couple of weeks and no contact from dealer. I called them today and am now told that the rear window is back ordered and expected date is now May. If the fix isn't available I wonder what window they are putting in the new Jeeps and will the connection for the defroster fail on all those windows too.

Same problem here. The buttons were just soldered on poorly and popped off. I have 4K miles on the jeep and the carwash guys must have knocked off the buttons when drying the inside of the window. Just got back from the dealer. After waiting two weeks for an appointment and sitting there for 90 minutes, a young lady who had no idea what she was talking about told me that the "part" is out of stock and will not be available for a month. She did not even understand that the "part" meant a rear window. She told me that it will cost $1,600 and might not be covered by warrantee. First the Charlie Brown speaker issue that I had to fix myself and now this..... It is worth fighting them again, only to do a better job myself?

Same thing happened to me at ~7k miles. Dropped it off at the dealer. They told me the rear glass is backordered, and could take up to a month. Said it was a common issue and should be covered under warranty.

Make sure you keep an eye on it. I had the same epoxy fix on mine and it only lasted a couple of months. It did not come off again but it stopped conducting electricity. I took it back to the dealer and they told me that every epoxy fix they did stopped working over time and they ordered me a new piece of glass. Just a heads up.

Hi Ape and Mixedup4x4,
Recently there was a Technical Service Bulletin (08-037-19) that appears to address concerns similar to the symptoms that you are having with your vehicle. To ensure this TSB applies, we would like to get you into the dealer to have a qualified technician review the details of the TSB and specifics of your vehicle. Once reviewed, the technician can then perform the repair procedure that best matches the symptoms and diagnosis of your vehicle. If you need any additional assistance, feel free to send our team a private message!

After reading this post, I checked to see if my rear window defroster was working. It was not. When I popped the back window open, I found the wire has become detached from the window. It appeared to be soldered connection that has failed. The light on the switch was working and the connection had power, but the solder joint had failed.
