Shawn and I actually talked about the traction boards yesterday while we were trudging through the slop. Those things are expensive. Haha.
The MaxTrax ones are $300 for a pair. I was watching some videos on these things a while back and there is definitely a quality difference between all the MFG's.

I used my winch twice as much yesterday than I did all of last year. Lol! That is East Coast wheelin' in the mud.

@UNC Rubicon and myself hit up Patriot Mountain Off Road Park today. It’s a pretty small trail system, but worth the trip. It was pretty sloppy in there and we got there early as things were still frozen. The mud thawed quickly and made a mess.

We had to winch up a couple hills because of slick it was. All in all, not a bad place to stretch your 4x4 legs, but it’s small. If you’re thinking about heading out that way, I would plan to have some activities accompany this one. If it’s dry, you can run all the trails in an hour or two.

The Jeep’s look great muddy!

So, is Patriot Mountain doable without a winch if dry? I'm rolling stock Rubicon & KO2s with no upgrade plans at this time.

Absolutely. Dry, it’d be a stroll through the woods. Granted, I’m speaking for the loop we made. I can’t imagine it being tough anywhere else, to be honest.

They can be crazy expensive. I did a fair amount of research and the Maxtrax had/have great reviews. While some of the others out there were OK and/or not actually traction boards - there are some kitschy items out there. I couldn't justify the cost of the Maxtrax for me.

I went with the X-Bull boards. Maybe they'll not last as long, but get me out one time when I needed it was what I wanted. If eventually they break, I can buy them roughly three times and still be even. I did just buy one set (2 boards). From all I read/saw, two normally gets the job done when placed under the front tires (in 4WD). I did tie off a short line to each board so if they were buried, I could more easily find and pull them out.

I'm not sure how helpful that would have been with the long uphill slippery slopes you guys dealt with, but honestly, for other situations it would be one of the first thing I'd try. That and a little shovel work.

But that's for me and I'm sure there are others that say you don't need them or would spend the extra money.

No doubt if I had the coin, I would have gone with the MaxTrax; it looks like they are the best. You can use those as a bridge!

I've yet to use the ones I bought and wouldn't be terribly disappointed if I never do ;)

If they do work when I need them great, if not, then hopefully a tree is close enough so I can get out and order the better ones!

Hahahaha.

Wheeling around here, I doubt you’d have an issue finding a tree. I carry an 8 foot tree saver and a 30 foot recovery strap. If I can’t reach a tree between the winch, and 2 straps...I dunno what I’ll do. Probably call @chevymitchell. Haha.

I have ordered a 2019 Moab. I plan to upgrade the wheels and tires as soon as it comes in. I am looking to sell the brand new wheels and tires. It's probably a couple of months out. $1400 plus shipping. TPMS and lug nuts included.

I’ll start out by saying congrats on your purchase and welcome to the forum.

I’m going to be honest about the pricing on your tires and wheels - it’s a little steep. Most guys are getting $1300 or less for Rubicon take offs. Just a friendly piece of advice. Good luck with your sale.

When you find out that KO2s that fit Sahara Wheels are more expensive than KO2s that fit Rubicon wheels...
