When shopping for a JL to order in OKC, the quote included an extra $600 for 4 oil changes, tire rotation, wheel locks, & to sweeten the deal, threw in some dealer name floor mats! Helluva Buy! NOT for me!

I do all my own work and always changed my own oil/
filter/brakes--etc-UNTILL-

Now I have my dealer change oil/filter/recalls/TSB and discrepancies, because--with my new RAM/JL all the engine/tranny work is on CHRYSLER/FCA COMPUTER DATA BASE-so if anything happens they will have all requirements on RECORD FOR WARRANTY -

Changing your oil and doing basic service is not magic but within the warranty period FCA or your dealer could definitely use it against you if some issue arises. Everyone is free to do what they want and those who choose to let others do their service don’t deserve criticism.

Not everyone has to be! But some simple "Basic" responsibility on things like fluids is not being a "hard core" mechanic, it's common sense. And as far as changing oils and fluids, "NOBODY" will ever do mine! I was over seas once and my wife took our Grand Cherokee to a "Jeep" dealer for service and a new rear pan gasket, the following morning, differential oil had leaked/dripped all over our driveway. Seems the plug was forgotten in the rear and a lot of oil puked out all over the bottom of the car. So things happen and lucky I didn't loose a rear! I had a buddy close to do the quick fix and refill the rear.
The reason I put it as "hard core do it yourself" was because it was a simile.

How about, some Jeep owners prefer to let someone else work on their vehicle. :)

Another reason mentioned by JimBox is warranty issues. There is a thread on here where someone installed their own lift and had issues. Jeep denied their claim. The fine print stated that if you installed the lift there was no warranty. Given the current climate I can see dealers looking for any excuse to deny a claim and most people are not anal enough to properly document the work they do.

My reason is simply time. Between work and running my son, who is to young to drive, all over creation I don't have time.

The same thing has happened to me multiple times while using their free or discounted oil change service. The dealerships advertise that they do check and fill fluid levels. I have read this back to them many times, but like most businesses they do not care.
The small print may say that a light must be on before they do anything, but that is really sneaky.
Now I tell them what I want them to do. For example making sure my tire pressure is where I want it to be, not what they think.
I also check the oil after a change and have caught them not changing the oil. The stick obviously showed evidence that the oil was not changed. I change my oil most times and know what the oil should not have looked like that if the oil was newly changed. I confronted the manager and they did a fresh change, but never again did my vehicle go back to that dealership.

Jiffy Lube changes my oil, fills my tires, tops off my fluids, rotates my tires, checks my brakes (though I’d never let them touch the brakes), cleans my windows, and vacuums my carpets — all within 15 minutes without an appointment. They also know how many quarts the JL takes. Not sure why anyone would go to the dealership unless you’re bored.
Go to youtube any type in Jiffy lube/quick lube ripoffs. You'll never go back there again!!!

In a court of law, if you saved the receipts and logged it in your service manual or have a log book as I do there is "nothing" FCA can do to you providing you followed the manufactures oils grade and other "recommended" items. If that were the case and you "must" take it to a dealer it would be a monopoly and not fair to the consumer. Recalls and warranty items, "Yes"!

I just hit 5K and visited my dealer for my first oil change & tire rotation. I told the service manager to ensure they used 5 quarts, not 6. He checked his "cheat sheet" for the Wrangler and sure enough, it listed the old 6-quarts, but he put 5 on the order and that's what I got. They also did a multi-point inspection (visual), and did check air pressure and topped off the washer fluid. Of course, all that was okay because I regularly check that stuff myself.

These days dealers take credit for their 257 point inspections and charge a lot for them. I would expect these days that any extra work they perform beyond the "free oil change" they would write up, exaggerate and charge for. I agree it's a bit of a "no service" way to serve the customer, but I expect little from a dealer anymore. Especially for free.

Im the guy who can do it all on my Jeep. If I CHOOSE to. When I’m presented with the CHOICE of whether to be with at my sons wrestling meet or changing motor oil....guess which one Im choosing? If ANY business changing my oil fails to check my tire pressure/other fluids = your fired. Never using your worthless, lazy-ass again. Period. Even Wal-mart oil changes include such basics. Any questions?

To those criticizing the op = keep lowering the standards for everyone. Good job. Your parents would be proud.

No, just a comment. Oil changes take about 30 minutes and very little effort. No need to worry about missing a sporting event, which is really pretty worthless in the grand scheme of things.
You can teach your kid more by sharing an oil change with them.

I got my 3rd change done on Saturday. Finally got them to put 5 quarts in but they still continuously put 5w-20. Once these free ones run out I'll just start doing it myself since it's basically a 10 minute job on a Wrangler.

I'll raise you this. With the JL, I can actually change the oil in 10 minutes. No shop does that anymore unless you are first in line, and to do that, you'll wait more than 10 minutes before they even open. Drain plug, easy. Filter open and out, easy. Open fill cap. Let drain a few minutes. Tighten drain plug (torque wrench), easy. New filter in and tighten the cap, easy. Pour in one 5 quart jug of oil. Replace oil fill cap. Done. As @Rhinebeck01 said. You don't even need to check it, unless you are obsessive about it, like me. I'd bet I can still do that in under 10 minutes.

Then, off to wrestling, baseball, or whatever, and I don't have to worry about overfilling, overtightening, not tightening enough, wrong oil, filter gasket, or stripping of the drain plug. Those are all things that have occurred when I've had others change my oil over the years. One of them cost a new Ecoboost in my wife's van. $12 grand on the shop's insurance and a big headache for us waiting for it. If the shop owner wasn't honest, that 12 large would have been out of my pocket and who knows how much time/effort/money/difficulty would I have had as I tried to get them to take responsibility? (For the record, we still take my wife's van to him. It is too low for us and hey, the guy took responsibility. I can't ask for more than that from him, so he keeps my business.)
