so what are your thoughts on spare tire covers? Are they necessary? I believe I’ll be rotating the spare when the time comes & where I live (Chicago area) is not really known for blazing sun, so are they all that important or is it just like a big bumper sticker on there?

I see no evidence tires with no cover age any faster than tires that get covered. I think it’s a “looks” thing. Most people I’ve seen with larger tires. Don’t put covers on.

That said, I’m with you and will be rotating the spare in.

It depends.

If you have 4 aftermarket wheels w/ larger tires, and a stock spare then you need a spare tire cover to keep from looking stupid driving down the road. You get the side benefit of protecting the wheel from damage and protecting the tire from dry rot since you won't be rotating it in.

If you have 5 matching wheels/tires, then you should use all 5 during rotations and a tire cover isn't needed.

Spare tire covers are all for looks really. But this one comes off pretty easy and it tightened up and doesn't look as loose anymore. If I put my bike carrier on I take the tire cover off.

That’s the one I would get if I get one. I’m undecided, my 5 stock tires match for now...

I agree it's not necessary, but I like the look of a cover. I will be doing the 5 tire rotate as well. Mine was quick to put on and will be as quick to take off. This picture was taken right after I put it on, it looks smoother now.

I had a cover on up until I threw on the brake light relocation. I like the look better, sans cover. Besides... it's a wheel... designed to get down & dirty. And I didn't need something else telling the driver behind me it's a Jeep.

Just ask @cosine he knows!
I like the simple Jeep or Jeep paw cover, and what WXman said rings true in my case. Running 295/70/17s on 4 new wheels and keeping my sad OEM Michelin tire and sport wheel as a spare, so that needs to be hidden for sure! Would have gotten 5th matching tire & wheel but my back is in bad shape and will be running my small wheel/tire set for long road trips where we wouldn't be wheeling, and don't want to deal w/ that large spare on & off.

Thanks for the replies, being new to Jeeps I’m surprised to see the split between Like/Don’t like. Maybe it boils down to who has the custom wheels that don’t need to be hidden.

It all boils down to personal preference and what you want your Jeep to be.

I agree. I like the look of the cover and I like the look of my Rubicon wheels on my Sport S.
