Hold on. . . you're suggesting that some dealers might not actually have a working knowledge of how, when, and why the products they sell are built, but take a stab at it anyway? Ok, I'm kidding. That is a very interesting excerpt you quoted, thank you for posting it as I wondered how they did it. The logistics must be extremely complex - constantly changing requirements for parts and installation skills etc - to which I tip my hat to the process and those who wrangle it (pun intended?). But hey, it's what they do, just refining what Mr. Ford started. Now I'm off to search for that UoT paper to read while I wait wait wait.
