2019 JLU Rubicon, (steel bumpers) is ordered - I'm considering changing rubber to 35's right out of the gate. I like the meatier look, and it will add an inch of ground clearance. If I'm going to order tires, it needs to be before end of the year.
My variables:
Keeping stock base rims
No lift (Don't want one)
Don't care about fuel economy
Road noise (Initially and when they get more worn) is a concern
Don't want spacers

Pondering:
BFG KO2 in 315 70 17
Nitto Ridge Grappler 35 12.5 17

Can I do these without rubbing?
Will the tailgate and spare tire carrier function properly?
Load Range C,or E?

Given my parameters, is there any reason not to do this?

Appreciate your input.

Cheers,
James

Lots of Rubicon folks running 315/70/17 without a lift without issues.

Most chose C over E due to ride quality.

I’m picking up my JLUR tomorrow and swapping out for 315/70/17 KO2s at the dealer before I drive off the lot.

Is the dealer giving you any credit for your tires? Cost difference? Thanks.

Thanks for the feedback. I've spoken to a few shops about 35 inch tires with my setup who have expressed concern:
1) Tires rubbing while offroading
2) Tailgate and or third brake light issue with the spare.
3) Mounting the above wider tires on stock rims

Regards,
James

1. Look at @Kevin8086 older videos. (litebrite on YouTube). They wheeled on 35s with no lift for a while.

2. I just put 315/70/17 KOs with MOPAR beadlocks on my JLUR today. The spare fits fine. I’ll need to add to the bump stop but it clears the bumper fine. Pics at bottom.

3. Again, see @Kevin8086. They ran 35s and I believe 37s on stock rims.

I’m running 37s (12.5) with no lift on stock wheels. Steering rub happens rarely and only turning full lock left when it does. Rears hit the plastic spacer between fender and bumper occasionally but I’m too lazy to take them out right now. I couldn’t wheel it right now now without the flex room a lift would give but DD is fine all day long. In other words a JLUR won’t even know you switched it to 35s ... built for it, 8spd trans is magic and the thing somehow takes more tire than it ever should. I would go lower load range unless you need the sidewall for hardcore wheelin .... had Es on my JK and wished I didn’t. The 3rd brake light can go up a couple inches if you need it to and almost worked even with my 37. 35 spare shouldn’t be a problem as my 37 was less than an inch from fitting without a relo bracket.

Aggie - Amazing you squeezed 37's in there with no lift. Bet it looks great. Cheers.

You guys have to stop worrying about the spare tire "RUBBING" on the rear bumper--

The more it "RUBS" the better/safer/spare tire carrier longevity it will promote--the more important dimension is the "SPARE TIRE BUMPER STOP CONTACT"--

The main reason the spare tire carrier fails is the installation of a larger tire/ wheel and NO ATTENTION IS PAID TO THE BUMPSTOP !!!

Without the BUMPSTOP CONTACT the spare tire is subject to CONSTANT LATERAL/VIBRATION FORCES that degrade the carrier, much faster than it's design/construction will endure--

Looks great! I'm about to do the same wheels/tires but with a 2" lift. Can you post some front and side profile pictures? Thanks

I just picked her up yesterday so I don’t have many pictures. I’ve got a couple profiles but no fronts - yet.

How far off is your speedo going from the 33" to 35" (real world numbers)?
