Hi I need help! I had bought a Compass and with in the first month the car had four different issues. They ended up taking the car back however with them doing that the agreement was that I would have to purchase a car off their lot! I ended up getting a 2018 jeep grand Cherokee. Within the last two weeks thereā€™s been a crazy noise in the dash. Iā€™ve read all of the posts and I will try them tomorrow morning however, do you not recommend taking it to the dealer? Iā€™m a little disappointed I have owned Lexus Toyota Ford and I have never had this issue before! I honestly feel the purchasing a jeep was the biggest mistake I couldā€™ve made!
Why would you not take it to dealer?

Do you know any independent mechanics you trust that might take a listen?

Hi Lizzie,
We understand how this would be concerning. If you choose to go to your dealer for this, you can also send us a private message so we can offer an extra layer of assistance while your vehicle is being serviced.

So this is interesting - my noise went away. I wonder if itā€™s only there at certain temps/humidity levels. I guess Iā€™ll find out if it ever cools off around here, again.
Ugh. The noise is back with a vengeance.

I am going to buy one of those cheap diagnostic stethoscopes from Harbor Freight to try and narrow down the source area. I want to say itā€™s the corner of the dash where the speaker is (itā€™s not the speaker - muting radio has no effect), but pressing down around there doesnā€™t change the sound at all.

Only happens at 60+ MPH. Worst part is itā€™s driverā€™s side, so I can only diagnose while driving at highway speed. Argh!

Apparently my JL has a few rattles in the dash area. It was driving my wife crazy all weekend. Fortunately I'm as deaf as hell so it don't bother me.

I've yet to pickup a stethoscope, but this noise is making me nuts!

@Krondor, since you've taken your whole dash apart to paint it (You're way braver than I! Looking great, by the way) do you have any ideas? Is there anything behind the dash near the driver's vent that could rattle/vibrate?

What you are looking for is this:

Just behind your speaker is this wire group and that piece of cardboard with foam is what I wedged between the speaker and the box. This box has been identified in other threads to be the culprit of our buzzing woes.

Just wedge something in there that will not wiggle out and has a bit of cloth or foam that will absorb the vibration.

Let me know if this solves your troubles.

Thanks, Krondor. Been there and done that. :-( My noise is something different.

Poking around more and I can't say anything sticks out.

Thank you for this picture! I can now put the idea of dismantling my dashboard to rest.

This morning I tried pushing really hard on the grab handle while the sound was happening and it went away. I had to push very hard, though. At least now I know the source is up higher than the dash.

I appreciate you taking the time to post that picture!

Might want to pull the A piller off and secure any loose wires. Get some cloth tape to keep them from vibrating. Might just be that they were not put into the clip that holds the wires?

I hope this will fix the noise I've been trying to track down, only hear it on certain music notes.

Update: I bought and installed these, as I have a soft top and read that tightening them down in the holes meant for the hard top eliminates play.

Xprite Set of 4 OEM-Style... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M01EQ2W?ref=yo_pop_ma_share

Well, doing that did make my cabin quieter. No more creaking. That said, my original noise is still there. Iā€™m almost positive that Iā€™ve narrowed it down to win getting through somewhere. Iā€™m basing that on the fact that the noise disappears in the rain.

Next step is to tape over the windshield seal on driverā€™s side. Iā€™m getting closer!
