Wow that's insane. Good thing you didn't need your bumper for anything yet
Yep, thats the thing.

Bumper bolts right there where the welds were missing.

If i didnt see the missing welds and installed the bumper and winch and went to use them when needed, im afraid the frame horn would of riped off.

The only thing holding the right frame horn on was a weld on top and a half weld on the side. The reinforcement plate wasnt even lined up and straight. I couldnt believe it.

The left frame had welds all around the horn itself and the plate was nice and flush. As you can see from the pics

I am still in the market for a vehicle. Every month I roll back here to see what issues are cropping up with the Wranglers. Every month I return full of hope, wanting to feel like at least FCA has the basics rectified. Every month I leave this site disappointed . . .

I am cross shopping this vehicle with similarly priced "luxury" vehicles including the Porsche Macan and Lexus GX, along with "premium" off road vehicles including the 4Runner. None of those vehicles light me up the way the Wrangler does - and yet all of those come without the "fear" baggage the Wrangler bears.

Come on FCA - you have a built in pool of sales waiting for you to get your act together!

I am in the same boat. Sold a car last Aug to make room for a JL. I was ready to order last Aug-Sept. I decided to wait and see how FCA is addressing some of these quality issues after reading about them. Thankfully I am not in a rush because I have other cars to drive. I bet FCA lost some sales due to unresolved quality issues. Potential buyers who could not wait because they needed something to drive.

It got bad enough that I abandoned my order when it came in. I did not want to risk a vehicle this plagued with problems. And now the Gladiator is about to arrive, presumably full of the same problems. The outcry will get louder with what will presumably be the least reliable truck on the road.

vioer88, "FCA could and should..." I could not have posted a better message.
Hopefully, to clear the air and introduce: I’m a GM guy, but since my diaper days I have idolized 2 non-GM enterprises: Wrangler and Mustang (notice that both are front-engine-RWD, but that's fodder for another day).

In my work as a supplier for FCA Chassis Engineering, I found out who’s poor welding of the lateral link’s bracket got you here. It is not my place to tell who, but I am privileged to know that that frame supplier has been told they will not be shipping WS (Wagoneer, Grand Wagoneer) frames.

That said, and probably not news to many fellow bloggers, there are long-settled welding (robotic and otherwise) technologies that would have made it impossible for this to happen. I recommend that y’all or a trusted mechanic examine your JLs for all the frame-welding sites you can possible see, not only at the subject bracket-to-frame.

Pretty much everyone knows Tower International built the JL frames. The question is why didn't FCA reject them during QC, and why aren't they stepping up and taking care of these issues?

The Office of Defects Investigation for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration contacted me this morning after i filed a complaint with them. They seem genuinely concerned about the pictures i sent them and have been following up and asking more questions and asking for more pictures.

My vin was unaffected by the track bar weld recall, and my weld issues seem to be a whole separate issue concerning the weld problems with the frame.

The missing and uneven and off center support bracket seem to be the biggest concern. Especially since the welds will not and cannot be noticed and inspected unless the front bumper and splash guard are removed.

An escalated case with Jeep was filed and someone from Jeep is suppose to be contacting me in 1-2 business days as well.

I will update when i find out more with whats going on:puke:

I’m in the exact position...I extended the date I was going to keep my current car in the hopes FCA would shore up the steering and frame issues. I see no effort and no progress by FCA. I’m much more interested in a ZR2 at this point. 90% of the off-road performance and very little technical issues...

Took my front bumper off this am to install a new arb bumper i picked up on black friday.

While looking things over i was immediately drawn to the welds on the frame horns.

Blown out welds that went right through the frame.

Welds that were on one side were missing from the exact same piece on the other side.

Incomplete welds.

The whole nine.

You cant see the welds unless you remove the front bumper completely.

Anyone else look at the front of your frame when you replaced your front bumper?

Needless to say, it really makes you think what else is messed up that got covered up where you cant see it.

Keep in mind, this is where the crush cans go so your airbags deploy.

Is this something that would concern you?

The picture below shows no welds, were the other side had welds. Missing completely.

Right side,,missing welds. The two metal pieces dont even line up and one side is higher than the other.

Left side, has welds. And everything lines up and is flush, unlike the other side.

Amazing how the Trolls called this weeks ago. The smoke screen is slowly fading.

Gotta treat your new JL purchase like a used car. Bring a mechanic with you to check all the common problems before purchase. A couple bucks for the mechanic could possibly save you thousands of dollars and dozens of headaches

said this before. because i wanted a stripped rubicon (nothing but a hard top) i'll have to order. thats a chance i wont take presently. the thing is, there is nothing wrong with the design as far as i can see, with the possible exception of the steering box which can be addressed. so all the problems, welds, electrical issues and similar are simply poor quality control. imagine the vehicle with a no-issues frame welds and no electric gremlins. there is no reason that that this should not be so other than perhaps the rush to get these things out and sold.

if i won the lottery, i'd buy one have it disassembled, a custom tube frame built, axles upgraded, atlas 4+1 transfer case and a hemi or gm ls v8. and i'd ditch the ess battery thing. because it doubles the potential for battery failure. now you have two batteries, both must work, either fail and youre done.
