I'm lucky, my dealer listens to me about what "NOT TO TOUCH" and then does the oil/filter change and a FULL 23-POINT VEHICLE CHECKUP--IE; all fluids/brakes/shocks/diffs--checks on applicable RECALLS--PERFORMS or notes on receipt-gives me ride home and back--if I ask-

What more could you ask for ??

You guys are clearly used to subpar service and conditioned to accept it...Is this another "Jeep thing"?

So those of you in the oil change only camp, does your dealer sell 2 options for old changes? 1. We dump the oil and add new and ship it then 2. Same as #1 but also check your air filter, fluid levels, safety inspection. I didnt think so.

I worked for 10 years in GM and Chrysler dealers as a technician we always topped off fluids as part of a LOF.

So much hostility! I hope the OP does not get discouraged from asking questions and trying to be part of a welcoming community that does not judge....

Not everyone who buys a Jeep is a "hard core do it yourself" type. I recently bought a JLU and I bet I won't change the oil myself ever. I simply don't want to deal with the hassles and don't have the time.

After driving to the local parts store to get parts, driving home, changing the oil, driving to somewhere that will accept the used oil, and driving home, I could have had my local shop change it while I enjoy a relaxing meal at the excellent diner right across the street. Oh, and they top off the washer fluid.

With that said I do check my oil and washer fluids weekly on all of my cars as a matter of habit. And I do agree this is not something that should be escalated to Jeep. Simply remember that the dealer may not perform those checks when getting an oil change and you may need to ask for them to get done and it may be an "upgraded" oil change.

Had the same issue with the tire pressure on my oil change. These monsters filled me up to 51 on 3 tires and 61 on the forth... glad i caught it on the 5 mile drive home.

Not everyone has to be! But some simple "Basic" responsibility on things like fluids is not being a "hard core" mechanic, it's common sense. And as far as changing oils and fluids, "NOBODY" will ever do mine! I was over seas once and my wife took our Grand Cherokee to a "Jeep" dealer for service and a new rear pan gasket, the following morning, differential oil had leaked/dripped all over our driveway. Seems the plug was forgotten in the rear and a lot of oil puked out all over the bottom of the car. So things happen and lucky I didn't loose a rear! I had a buddy close to do the quick fix and refill the rear.

You should move to the east coast. I think there is a state there that is full service only.

Brett
New Jersey on the Right Coast; Oregon on the Left Coast. We were in Portland/Vancouver a few weeks ago. Got gas across the river in Washington rather than deal with our Oregonian gas passers. It's very disconcerting to have those characters insisting on pumping gas. There's even some variation on that, depending on where you live and time of day:

"A new law that took effect this week in Oregon will allow residents in rural counties to pump their own gas — a divergence from the state’s decades-long history of having attendants pump gas for drivers.

Under House Bill 2482, which took effect Monday, retailers in counties with a population of less than 40,000 are allowed to have self-service gas pumps. Drivers in 15 counties can now pump their own gas any time of day, while those in three other rural counties can do so after business hours, between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m."

No choice. Es la ley.

I always specifically ask them to leave the air in the tires alone because I have it just where I want. Modern vehicles use so little fluids I can't even remember the last time I added anything other than washer fluid.

This place has slowly been turning into Pirate4x4 - where giving smart aleck answers is the 'in-thing'.

I've been changing my own oil, for 37 years, and now I'm offered 4 free oil changes. I will be nervous, having someone who probably couldn't care less about my new vehicle, changing the oil. I think, the less he touches it, the happier I will be. I will top up my own fluids, and let the wife get the "Spa Treatment", for her car.

Why do I change my own oil and filter. Over the years: my dealer jammed the oil filter on so tight that I had to use a screw driver driven through the filter to get it off; another dealer took seven hours to do a 15 minute oil change...every time I called it was "you're next, in 15 minutes; "Oh, you wanted full synthetic...we put in regular"; 4) 6 quart fill is 20% better than using 5 quarts.

Yeah NJ. When some of those folks leave the state, they have no idea how to pump gas, let alone check fluids.

Alright, I'll give my 2 cents worth... personally I would prefer them to leave my washer fluid alone (I use a kind that they don't have). But if it's low, I wouldn't mind it being mentioned (which is usually what happens in my experience). Again in my experience - they check everything else (filters, brake pads, etc) and will offer additional replacements for a price, I'm perfectly fine with that (although I usually decline and do my own thing).

The Jeep service department is the Veterans Health Administration of the car world. They work hard to keep performance one notch below “barely acceptable” because it’s a Jeep thing.

Jiffy Lube changes my oil, fills my tires, tops off my fluids, rotates my tires, checks my brakes (though I’d never let them touch the brakes), cleans my windows, and vacuums my carpets — all within 15 minutes without an appointment. They also know how many quarts the JL takes. Not sure why anyone would go to the dealership unless you’re bored.

I think the confusion here is the difference between an oil change and a full service oil change. The Jeep Wave oil changes don’t seem to be full service. From the terms and conditions on the Jeep Wave website:

MAINTENANCE SERVICES
The Plan may be one or two years in duration. Two-year memberships provide four oil changes and four tire rotations to be used over the term of the membership (24 months). One-year memberships provide two oil changes and two tire rotations to be used over the term of the membership (12 months). These services MUST be performed by a FCA US LLC Dealer and be used by the expiration date of the plan.

They never mention full service...so I’m not sure it’s part of the Jeep Wave program. I understand where OP is coming from...but I just don’t think he has much of a case...
