Is the mounting bracket for the Rear Steel Bumper on a JLUR the same as the Plastic Bumper on a JLUR? Hoping to install the oem steel one this weekend.

Anybody with an oem plastic rear bumper replace with oem steel? Are the brackets the same?

From what I recall, yes. It was a simple swap.
One more question. What did you use to attach the two bolts underneath to the cross member?

Doesn't the oem steel one rub against the body when flexing? I thought I saw that in a litbrite video. Maybe do an after market one instead.

I know there needs to be two 16mm bolts but what holds them in the cross member. Rivnuts?

There’s probably a newer thread for this but I ran into an issue that doesn’t make sense considering how many threads I read about an easy swap. So I am switching from a plastic rear bumper to steel. In general it is an easy swap. I carefully took both bumpers apart to install the sensors. Annoying but not hard. The clips are almost in the exact same spot on each. Here is the issue, the side closure pieces are shorter on this steel bumper than on the plastic by several inches. WTF? Is there another thread that addresses this? This steel bumper is a 2018 JLUR takeoff with black fenders and I have a 2018 JLU painted fenders. Don’t know why that would make a difference but worth noting. Oh and of course, the holes don’t align if I wanted to use the plastic bumper extensions.

Cancel that, I guess I should clarify I did not see the Jeep (Facebook market purchase). Listing was for JLUR Steel Bumper. Based on this clearly it’s from a sport. Still dumb they have different sizes.

They are different lengths based on the images.

You have it backwards, sort of. The Rubicon has a larger wheel opening and requires a “shorter” end cap. Sport and Sahara need a “longer” cap to meet the smaller flare opening. If this is on the Jeep in your profile picture it’s a Moab which has Sahara flares.

Gregj
Edit to add the shorter one also sticks out slightly further Rubicon flares are wider.
