First, the salesman tried to show me a Sport and I told him I wasn't interested in that model because of the open diffs. Do you know what the 1000 yard stare means??? After I got him back to the car lot, I told him why I was only interested in a Rubicon. He then showed me the really technical Rubicon items like the red tow hooks. After all this professional knowledge, I made a deposit on a Rubicon anyway and have been waiting (since 7-31-18). I looked on the dealer web site yesterday at new Jeeps on the lot for sale and saw a listing for a Rubicon that was coming soon. Looked closer and guess what!!! It had the same VIN as the Rubicon I ordered. So far, I've sent 3 e-mails to the dealership and no answer. How many dealerships sell the same vehicle twice???[/Q.

Every Jeep shows up on dealers site, shouldn’t be anything to worry about.

You may want to go over there and speak with both the sales manager and the general manager .

Works for me , I happen to always carry a big club with me (for balance) . And I sometimes need to raise it upwards with my fist (for balance) . Only time it didn't work was with a psycho guard dog . lol .

Car salesmen and women need to go the way of the Dodo bird. As does the Sales Manager, General Manager and most definitely the "F&I" guy.

That whole pyramid of "talent" serves no purpose but to raise my blood pressure, insult my intelligence, waste my time and cost me money. Nothing - NOTHING that comes out of their mouths is a truth and in your best interest. For those truly nice folks out there, you are a rarity, but I doubt car sales will be your career. You won't last.

This whole scheme is utterly ridiculous in this day an age. Sadly, I think the more information we have available, the more aggressive these folks become. The absolute only one who benefits from this nonsense is the owner. Go find out who owns the dealers in your local area. You will find out that a very small number own most dealerships - regardless of make. They keep a low profile. Look for articles on them, see how they live. Shocking (or not). And they are a powerful lobby. How is this beneficial to the customer? It is not.

So when the sales manager hits me with bs like "salesman Bob has to put food on his table", I'm thinking the best thing I can do for Saleman Bob is convince him he is a the bottom of sh!tty pyramid, where he works every weekend, and 12 hours a day or more and he's going nowhere. I can do that by getting the best deal I can.

Imagine if the owner of my local diner, came out before I ordered, and said "Waitress Sally needs to put food on the table, so I'm going to charge you more. And we'll have to negotiate for the sides. And don't expect Sally to know much about the menu." On the contrary, Sally goes above and beyond to take my order and serve me food. She's pleasant, genuinely interested, and yes, wants me to have a good experience so I will come back. No, no one needed to tell me she needs to put food on her own table. I know that. I leave way more than a 20% tip, because I can. I have no such feelings about a car sales person.

None of these folks in cars sales care about you. The small talk they make is part of the scheme to find something in common with you, to allay your fears and close the deal. Why would this new "friend" lie to you? Screw you over?

Couple of examples to stick to the OP as now I've gone off on a rant....:

I bought a Jeep Liberty Limited in 2004, I actually liked that vehicle. I liked it as much as my Cherokee. I traded in a Subaru. In the Subaru I had a Garmin GPS mounted on the dash. Remember, 2004 there were still some pretty big GPS units, and expensive - It was like a small TV. They gave me a price for my trade, 3 days later I come back to make the deal. Next day salesman calls me:

"Hey, where's that GPS unit?" Me - "Huh?"

He hounded me for that thing, actually said sale would be negated. Take me to court Blah, blah. Seriously. He obviously took me for an idiot. Wanted the thing for himself.

Called me several times. I ignored him after the first call.

More recently, when acquiring my JL...

I wanted the dual top option. Salesman - a kid - I was one of his first sales.

"You know, they can install that soft top under the hard top for you..."

Ok, I know my TJ was DELIVERED like this. I think JKs, too. But, I also knew the JL dual top option was delivered in a box. I shrugged it off....

Then on delivery, I asked if salesman could help me take all of the soft top components out of the box the dual top comes in, and just put them in the JL. I did not want a big box that I would have to deal with later....I was NOT asking for them to install. I'm not that stupid. But before I could finish my sentence ( they never listen)...

"NO WAY, we can't do that".

I clarified and he emptied the box contents into the Jeep. Ironic that he was the one who made the wrong suggestion of "installing" to begin with...

Also I was told regarding dual tops: "that option is in high demand" Meaning what, exactly? You are going to try and screw me?

I absolute hate that sh!t: "xyz is in high demand"... Happened when I bought a Tacoma Double-Cab Long Bed - "Oh, they are in high demand...." Well, Mr. Salesman, you got like 20 of them on your lot, and I don't see a line of 20 people waiting to buy"

While sitting in the showroom, I'm listening to a high pressure sale on a Jeep Compass - "Jeeps are in high demand".... Eye roll....

Dealership I went to (and ordered from) only had a single Sahara on the lot for the test drive, despite my hope for a Rubicon so I could get a better idea of what I *actually wanted. No matter, let's take the Sahara out.

Dealer drives pulls up front - it's got an aftermarket 4" lift and 22's.

Exactly So !

Salesman : "Tacomas are in high demand ". Customer : "It's all yours then ; bye ".

My next car I hope I can buy online at Amazon, and delivered in 2 days.
I’ve bought many cars of during the years and I cannot recall a single time sales people didn’t say something out of line or stupid. Not to mention how many times I didn’t buy a car BECAUSE of the sales people.

We just went thru much of what has been described. I went to my local dealer ready to order. Told the salesman that had to be in a motorcycle gang based off his MC tats that we wanted to look at a rubicon one more time real quick. He tried showing us the JK. I told him we wanted to see the JL. He find a plain Jane sport to show me. Proceeds to say the only difference is the sway bar disconnect. I said the lockers are a pretty big selling feature. He told me they don’t have those. I hammered him on that. We went inside and I said again I wanted to order and he kept putting me off saying that he’ll let me know when he gets some in on the truck. We left. Idiot never realized I was ready to go now after saying it twice.

That’s a good point - lots of “no sales” BECAUSE OF sales person.

Tested out a sunrider top on a JK when they first came out:

Salesman: "yea I have no idea how to do the top so I cant demo it for you"
Me: "I am pretty sure I can figure it out in about 5 seconds man"
SM: "I cant let you touch it otherwise it will void the Jeeps warranty"
Me: "seriously?...ok then I wont touch it, just look at these levers right here above the door, just push those down and I bet it will..."
SM: "no those are hard top clips for when you put the hard top over the soft top"
Wow

I asked about the red dash color because the Jeep site showed a grey version. My guy said that the red dash was a Rubicon iconic feature.
I was talking with my car salesman the other day about work ethic in general. He said that he regularly gets asked by the newbies, what is your trick?
He said, take the vehicles out for a drive and learn the features. He said that once you begin to guess about features you typically do not get the sale. I agreed. I sold cameras, equipment and accessories while in college. I took home every pamphlet and learned the equipment forwards and backwards.
It made things so much easier, and in the end I was regularly the high salesman with out really trying too hard.
What's the wrong info here?
