Backup LED above the camera behind the spare tire

I'm' seeking wisdom and comments from you guys who ever looked at this as a location for backup LED... I want to put a LED flood like in the hole or top spoke of the attached photo. Nice place to mount it on metal.

Anyone who did this an and what LED light did you use or would like to suggest..

To me that is to high up for a b/u light. Would be easy to mount an LED there but............

I went with Rigids, (they are 1"x1" in size) mounted low as they should be mounted.. They go on when I place tranny in R and I can also toggle on with Aux 3 which I have set up with it. Install of the Rigids was so very easy..

Some guys have two LEDs mounted on either side of the receiver hitch. There is a vendor that sells LEDs with a bracket that kinda cradles the receiver hitch.. I do not care for that because of the proximity to the receiver hitch..

I'm sure in a year or whatever there will be such an offering. I will easily move to that offering when available.

Can always use the little Rigids l currently have in another application.

Here is a pic of the VisionX, b/u LED light offering. cost is approx. $349.

Very pricey, and I just don't care for the look of it or it's proximity to the hitch receiver and to the 4/7 pin connector box. Would be an easy install though.

If you wanted to hook up to Aux switch and also b/u wire in hitch wiring bundle, you would need diodes. No big deal but another say $30.

You want them low

Why do they need to be low? If you’re using a quality light that does a good job of projecting light they don’t need to be low.

I prefer a wide low spread, if u have a backup camera and your lights are not low I run the risk of blinding the camera and anybody else that’s behind you. But U can do Whatever U want. The above photo shows what I don’t want. Kk do u have a JL?

Yup, no way would I ever consider mounting b/u lights up high like in that picture..... and, for a whole bunch of reasons.....

Yeah I do have a JL. The pic’s I posted we’re more to illustrate light output mounted at that level. The lower to the ground the lights are, the less usable light you get in my experience (I’ve got a set mounted below the rear bumper on my wife’s Ram). With the back up cam on on the back of the JL it wouldn’t be doable to run a similar set up, though one might be able to fab something poke up over the spare mitigating the whole blinding the camera thing.

Now as far as blinding someone, that should be a non-issue unless you’re doing intentionally (i.e. a f-you light). It’s a rear facing light so it’s not as if it would be flipped on when you’re driving forward, right? You’re going to be using it at night, probably when no one else is around. If you’re in a group with someone behind you there is no real reason to flip it on unless you’re using it as a chase light, and in those situations the person behind you will be far enough behind that they won’t be blinded.

That’s the way I look at it at any rate.
