I saved probably $2-3k buying out of state. Half of that was eaten up by the trip home, fuel and hotels etc. But that was my summer vacation. So the way I look at it, buying out of state paid for my summer vacation. Also, my local dealer hasn't treated my Wrangler any different than my WK2. They've taken to dealing with the issue just as if I'd bought it from them afaict.
