Also, this is a freak accident to someone particularly vulnerable to infection. I'm sure if it were more common, it would be banned by the FDA.

I agree on the "particularly vulnerable to infection" part given his other health problems. I don't necessarily agree on the "banned by the FDA" part.

Side note that diabetics are susceptible to these things since they usually have poor blood-flow in the extremities.

Well if it was common to get this type of infection by eating properly handled and prepared fish, I don't think it would take long for the FDA or other government agency to take action, IMO.

Have a look at the USDA food pyramid which directly correlates to the Type 2 diabetes epidemic in this country and that should shake your faith in those agencies.
