Solved any future problem. Put on these Velcro straps today and there is no movement on the freeway or even while off-roading. Abrasion no more.

No, these are not. I do use the straps that came with the Jeep to keep it secure in sunrider mode. You can see the factory strap peeking out from under the larger one by my rollbar.

I bought 4 of these (2 boxes) at Home Depot to hold it secure when all the way down. (2 to go around top at back and 2 to secure it to roll bar). I also found them at Amazon.

VELCRO Brand - All Purpose Straps - 36" x 2" All Purpose Strap, 2 Ct. - Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00575600W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_GU.eBbMBB0HRK

To be clear, i drive every day 65 miles round trip on the freeway at 75MPH with the roof down. That is why i want 0 movement. I think my wear marks have been caused by the slight by constant movement I get on the freeway.

Thanks for this! I went to Home Depot and purchased these same straps. They do work great and keep the top bundled nice and tight!

Appreciate the information :like:

I have the same issue...I had my top down for 2 days straight, going on the highway..and then I just saw this the other day. You can feel wear it is wearing down but hasn’t gone through, thank god. So I’m wondering if I should get these straps...thoughts?

We have 911's that have the same issue when the top is folded. It is not really much wear, mostly visual. I've seen most tops show wear like that, slowly getting worse for 10 plus years. I wouldn't be too concerned.

That being said... I just orderd the VELCRO straps also :)

Over 2000 highway miles and several trips offroad with these straps on now and there is ZERO movement and ZERO additional wear marks.

I consider these now standard equipment

Thanks to you I got two of the straps from Amazon too. However, I strap mine around the rear window bar with just two straps. I also release the straps when I'm not driving around just so I reduce the stress on the bar. It is aluminum so it should handle it ok anyway.

I much prefer the jk top for this and for easier storage in the back. I never had a problem with the zippers

I also found a set of lashing straps from Home Depot for about $10. When I first got my jeep I was hyper paranoid about the soft top when driving at speed. I had an unnatural fear that it would open like a parachute and rip off. The lashing straps solved the problem and I notice zero movement from the soft top in the down position. It takes an extra 30 seconds to put them on and I also noticed that it keeps the top packed down about an extra 3 or 4 inches which actually gives me a decent amount of visibility out the back.

For the guys that see wear, are you engaging the lock on each side of the top when it's down?

My 2012 911 did that too, right behind the drivers side windows. It bugged me, but I kept telling myself that there’s a price to pay for a top that folds down. I guess we shouldn’t be surprised to see some abrasion when cloth meets cloth in a vehicle.

At least a new top for a Jeep won’t set you back seven grand, when the time comes. So there’s that...
