Hello everyone! This is my first post. I just bought my JL two weeks ago. I have a 2door Sport with as many bells and whistles as I could fit in while still being in my price range.

One of those upgrades was the Premium soft top. I live in VA, and when I was buying the Jeep it was raining the entire time. I never took the top down before I bought it. My mistake I guess. Last week, I put it down for the first time, and I noticed that the rear passenger side frame had a 4 to 5 inch long break in it. The next day, I sent an email to Jeep and to the dealer. I received no response from the dealer, but Jeeps customer service responded within 24 hours.

I'm not entirely sure what I should do in this situation. It looks like Jeep wants me to take it back to the dealership, but I have a feeling the dealership is going to give me a hard time. Anybody have any recommendations? I'm thinking about just driving over there if I don't hear from them today.

Known issue you are having. There is actually a tech bulletin out on this. Do a forum search and you will learn more on this. Warranty will take care of it. Do from then on remember to unlock, before lowering the soft top.

Yes, go to dealership service dept..

Thanks, I'll stop by today. I'm glad I'm not the only one having the issue. I'll look for the thread now.

The bulletin from FCA apparently tells the dealership to educate the JL buyer in regard to unlocking the soft top before they attempt to lower it .... or breakage will result.

At least two guys here had the issue taken care of via warranty. You cannot get a fix from Best top. Requires dealership visit to document and get your JL fixed.

Got it. I tried to find the thread on here, but I couldn't find anything related to the frame. I'll take it to the dealership to try to get it replaced through the warranty.

Hopefully they don't give me a hard time about it. Thanks for the help.

Yeah, I did a forum search and am having trouble finding the info too. Trust me I am not just saying there are posts here about this... Someone posted the bulletin also.

I went to the dealership and they ordered new soft top rails for me through warranty. I'm finally getting them installed tomorrow. I guess they didn't have the parts available until now.

Update:
The dealership didn't end up changing the rails. After two hours, they told me they didn't have all of the parts. Looks like we're going to reschedule for the next couple weeks.

Yeaaaaaaah....

Well , at least you're getting some results ( hopefully ) , after all the time you've wasted . Document everything , because I'm looking forward to possibly hearing about the first lemon law claim for soft top rails .

Dropped my Jeep off this morning at 8am, and I just got a call (4pm) from the dealership asking if they can keep my car overnight. I told them I'd prefer if they just put all the parts in the Jeep so I can do it myself, and now I'm waiting for a call from the shop foreman.

I have a handful of other complaints about how the dealership handled the dropoff too. They have been more of an inconvenience than anything.
