Hi all,

Have a 2023 Sahara 4xe that was picked up last week as CPO.

Over the weekend, I encountered an error message "Service charging system" during the start-up of my car, followed by the appearance of a "Check Engine Light" 10 minutes later. As a result, my car is now experiencing low-end jerking and initial torque issues while accelerating. I also had difficulty starting the car, and it took a few 5-minute cycles before it finally worked.

I took my car to the dealership, and after running some diagnostics, the mechanic found the error code P0B24. He mentioned that the STAR team needs to be consulted on how to proceed with the troubleshooting. One possible cause of the issue could be the hybrid battery pack, and the module may require a full replacement.

I could not find much information about the P0B24 code on the forum, and I am curious to know if anyone else has faced a similar issue? Also curious to hear about others' experiences with waiting for the STAR team to approve a new battery pack replacement.

Thank you in advance for any advice you can provide!

You probably need a new battery.

https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/fo...t-the-problem-cel-code-p0bbd-00.127362/page-2

The B9A recall is simply a BPCM update which includes logic to detect a failing battery. After the update once the vehicle sits for a bit it'll throw a P0B24 HV Hybrid/EV Battery "A" Voltage Unstable DTC. At this point the dealer needs to make a star case for them to get the battery coming. I'm currently in the process of replacing one with another on order. A third came with this DTC yesterday but we turned him away due to the insane backlog of these things. They take well over a month to come in.

Yes sounds like the P0B24 code shows up after the B9A update. Thanks for providing that link! Helps!

Yeah sentience is right, the thrown code is part of the recall update and likely will need a new battery approved which is why they need to wait for STAR team.

On the Brightside your CPO will have a new battery with 0 miles on it.

Loiks like I dint have the B9A recall update myself. The dealership only did the 04B during CPO checks.

Would the code still show after a non-B9A update?

You know what, you're right, your vehicle wouldn't have been a part of the B9A recall since it's a 2023. Oddly enough the code you're seeing still references an issue with the battery.

The B9A and 04B use the same software for their updates. They just didn't bother making a B9A for the newer 4XEs. The 04B will be updated with the same battery logic since the software is the same. They didn't have any battery failing logic programmed into the module ordinally and hat to develop it for the B9A, then they rolled that update into all 4XEs for safety reasons.

Update: The local dealership is still pending STAR approval for a new battery but they provided a loaner for the time being. They said its hard to say how long a battery takes to get here and will provide a timeline once they know the battery ships.

When I had my battery replaced in Dec of '21, the battery was ordered immediately upon approval from STAR. It took about 3 weeks of shipping for it to arrive in Seattle via truck. Total repair process was ~5weeks. I hope yours is faster.

Update: got a call from the dealership saying the battery pack was delivered over the weekend so they will try and get the work completed by the end of the week.
Took about 2 weeks in my case from dropping off the car at the dealership for diagnostics to receiving the battery pack.

Hope this timeline helps others in similar situations.

Man, I experienced just this thing this morning. I have a '21 Rubicon 4xe. Started it up, the CEL came on, it had only charged to 96% and the Jeep was incredibly jerky. At the stop sign just down the street from my house (still in the neighborhood), I tried to turn it back off and restart. No dice. The shifter was in park but my dash kept telling me to push the brake and then push the start button to start the Jeep. Did that several times and it didn't work. I thought I was going to be stuck in the road. I finally exited the Jeep, locked it, walked away so my key didn't register, unlocked it, and when I re-entered the Jeep, then it started.

However, there was absolutely no meaningful engine power and it shifted like crap. It wouldn't let me manually shift, but I could move the shifter left to see the gears and watch the Jeep shift itself about every 5mph or so. So it shifted up to 2nd at 5mph, 3rd at 12mph, 4th at 17mph, 5th at 25mph, and 6th at 30. It was driving like a dog. Even if I floored the accelerator to the floor, the jeep would NOT downshift. It would just slowly accelerate in the wrong gear. But it would downshift when I slowed down. Also, the A/C wasn't cooling.

Dropped it off at the dealership this morning at 9am but haven't heard anything from them yet. I've already had the recall check done on my Jeep which it passed.

2021 4xE. Just had mine get a charging error while on a level 2 charger. Had only charged very briefly before stopping. Tried charging again, and it stopped after a few seconds. Started it up (gas engine immediately started with over %50 batter still), and indicated to "service the charging system". Drove around the couple hundred yards from the charger to where I park, and could feel that it was kinda twitchy on the acceleration and coasting (didn't indicate or feel any Regen braking). Parked for the night. Next morning it tried to start, but engine didn't start, and wouldn't go out of park (still said push break and start button to start). Read the code, and showed P0B24. Had it towed to the dealer (but started when the tow truck came). Been there 4 days, hopefully they will get it start looking at it soon. Extended warranty only covers 5 days of rental car... yay.

Takes a minimum of a week for STAR to approve and order the battery, and the battery can take up to 3 weeks to arrive. Do not expect your vehicle back for at least a month. Stellantis should provide you with a rental, give jeep cares a call.

Yes, i mentioned that update in this thread a few lines down. Took a few days for STAR to confirm battery replacement and 2 weeks for the battery to get to dealership.
No issues since battery replaced
