I was skiing the day John Candy died. I found out by reading about it on the chalkboard at the chair lift. It’s the first celebrity death I clearly remember. (And while the above sounds like a ridiculous Canadian joke, it’s actually the truth.)

I loved Candy, too and remember being quite sad when I heard of his death. "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" is one of my favorite comedies. Gordon Lightfoot was left off the list. He played Stagecoach in Palm Springs this past April. I really wanted to go see him but the rest of the lineup wasn't to my taste.

I do too! Last year I traveled to Vermont (Stowe) to visit my daughter and grandson and I think I listened to Gordon's Gold most of the 3 hour drive (in a snow storm) from Connecticut. He's getting old though, almost 80. I may not get to see him.

Agree. We saw him post surgery, but stronger than in that video. I’m grateful to have had the chance. I adore ‘if you could read my mind”, and “Canadian Railroad Trilogy” would battle “Northwest Passage” by Stan Rogers as most Canadian Canadian song out there...
