We still have steam inthe town I work in. They keep Attempting to eliminate it, but it’s not easy or cheap for the residents. It is great heat! But it also heats the streets and alleys where it leaks... inefficient. (But it is a byproduct of the electricity that is produced...) the “big” high school in town still has steam heat. It’s a continuous argument here.
Mine is produced in my building with a boiler that runs on heating oil. Since the boiler serves the whole building, its cost is just rolled into our rents. I do know that ConEd (NYC's energy utility company) generates steam for parts of Manhattan, but they're no longer expanding the network.

I have yet to meet anything that can match a steam driven cast iron radiator for heating power. :punch:

That's rare for a wall shaker to shut off !!!!
I taped all the gaps around the AC and have blackout shades. When it gets hot, I don't mess around. It'll still be 80 degrees in my apartment when I get home, but at least its not 90!

What's going on in your little lake town? Recent crime spree?

Open up a can of whoop-ass and get after it! We'll be here when you're done.

Steam heat here is awesome btw. The system was built based on an archaic code that states that everything must stay warm with the windows open during the winter. During the Spanish Flu outbreak, it was thought that fresh air helped flush out the virus. So people had their windows open in the middle of January. City passed an ordinance shortly thereafter stating that the system must be able to provide that kind of heat. No one bothers to retrofit these old buildings, so I usually have the radiators off and the windows open, except during a blizzard or polar vortex.
Didn't know that. Very interesting. This explains the famous NYC thermostat - opening or closing the window. When we lived on UES our apartment was the first in the line of the pipe. There were times I would turn on the AC to balance out the heat coming off the pipe in a middle of a winter. There is a winter "urban heat island" effect, and it's not from asphalt, but from the heat coming off of buildings and open windows as people try to regulate temps.

Yesterday was one month since Vida has been home!!! If you don’t blow your baby a kiss more often than not, you’re lacking love & need to work on that.

Fancy that. Monday was the one week mark for Gabrielle. I say good morning to her every day. :involve::involve::involve:

I need to find one of those self service car wash places. They have a lot of the "touchy" ones out here. Understandably, I want a more personal touch.

Might just have to buy some suds and do it myself...I have a bucket.

@JEEPJL I know you posted it before, but a quick rundown on the following, please? Thanks! :like:

1) Soap/shampoo
2) Mitt/sponge
3) Glass cleaner (I was going to use Windex)
4) Drying towels (The Chemical Guys?)
5) Tire shine

I'm probably going to price out a detail shop for a ceramic coat or some sort of monthly cleaning. Gabrielle sits outside 24/7, and I don't usually have access to a hose (I do for the time being, but its at my office). Once I start parking her long term, I might even look into a cover.

Having just recently watching the Deadpool movie...I didn't realize it was a comedy. LOL Monica and I laughed and laughed and laughed all through that movie.

Morning Chris!

Glad it made it at that temp! That’s beyond it’s recommended temp area! (In the old place, at -20F(no idea how nasty wind chill was) I took the cat, went in the sauna, and lit the wood sauna stove waiting for the repair dude. Kitty and I hung out at 75f. Electric Space heaters and regular flushing at least saved the plumbing. ) Reality is: Mother Nature always has the upper hand. Heating or cooling. So... have backups.
Heat pumps are supposed to have an "emergency heat" setting for these sorts of scenarios...but for whatever reason, the thermostat didn't have that setting.
