UPDATE (4/14): FCA added a repair description

Repair Description
FCA US will conduct a voluntary safety recall on all affected vehicles to replace the clutch assembly and update software to provide escalating visual and audible warnings to the operator, ultimately resulting in the potential reduction of engine torque capability when clutch assembly temperatures rise to a level that may damage the inner pressure plate.

Just landed in my inbox, courtesy of NHTSA.

Here’s the recall e-mail:

Your vehicle MAY be involved in a safety recall and MAY create a safety risk for you or your passengers. If left unrepaired, a potential safety defect could lead to injury or even death. Safety defects must be repaired by a dealer at no cost to you.

Why am I getting this email?
You are receiving this message because you requested to be notified by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) if there is a safety recall that mayaffect your vehicle.

The following may apply to one or more of your vehicles if your vehicle is listed below. Click on the NHTSA Recall ID Number below to read more about the safety issue and the reason for the recall.

To find out if your specific passenger vehicle is included in the recall, use our VIN Look-up Tool.

What is a recall?
When a manufacturer or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) determines that a vehicle creates an unreasonable risk to safety or fails to meet minimum safety standards, the manufacturer is required to fix that vehicle at no cost to the owner. That can be done by repairing it, replacing it, offering a refund (for equipment) or, in rare cases, repurchasing the car.

What should I do if my vehicle is included in this recall?
If your vehicle is included in this recall, it is very important that you get it fixed as soon as possible given the potential danger to you and your passengers if it is not addressed. You should receive a separate letter in the mail from the vehicle manufacturer, notifying you of the recall and explaining when the remedy will be available, whom to contact to repair your vehicle, and to remind you that the repair will be done at no charge to you. If you believe your vehicle is included in the recall, but you do not receive a letter in the mail from the vehicle manufacturer, please call NHTSA's Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236, or contact your vehicle manufacturer or dealership.

Thank you for your attention to this important safety matter and for your commitment to helping save lives on America's roadways.

That's odd. I have a Manufacture date of 11-22-22 and according to the VIN Look-up my Jeep is not included in the recall. Is it possible that they started making the change to new vehicles late in '22 knowing this was coming? Or, do you think because the letters going out is still a month away they haven't listed it yet?

Just checking in to say my V6/manual Jeep was built on 11/22/22 same as yours. It‘s an odd date since it’s the day before Thanksgiving.

Mine is a 2018 built in June 2018. I would have thought for sure mine would have been involved in this recall...but according to NHTSA...nope...I did have the previous 2 recalls performed (first was the destruction test that it passed, then the software update). So, IDFK...guess I will wait for a letter from Jeep.

Here are the 2 documents in case anyone can't access them. Mine is not included either.

I think the system just needs time to catch up. My VIN also shows no recalls, and yet they sent me the e-mail...

Will wait until the letter comes to see what's what. My clutch has never given me any issue over 5 years and 52,000 miles. That said, I very much hope they bite the (financial) bullet and offer a proper repair this time. i.e. hardware, no software!

69,000 affected Jeeps is honestly fewer than I would have guessed. We're the last of a dying breed, I guess.

I have a feeling they haven't uploaded the list yet. The letter goes out from NHTSA saying a recall is pending for "X", and then the manufacturer has to determine all of the vehicles effected by "X". Thus the letters not going out from Jeep until April. Do the different motor options have different clutch assemblies? I assumed they were all the same but perhaps that is incorrect?

Interesting bit from those docs:

This recall is not related to a part defect but rather a design specification where the clutch intermediate pressure plate could fracture during extreme overheating. The remedy is currently under development.
IIRC, the first recall notice went out in springtime just like this one and the "remedy" wasn't available until fall.

The fact that it says "not related to a part defect" makes me think the remedy will, again, be unsatisfactory. Give us a better pressure plate and add a pilot bearing, FFS.

They're saying it's not a manufacturing fault, it's a problem with the design (which most of us knew). It estimates that 100% of all units are affected.

They're also 'developing' a solution. Which I really hope means an entirely new design with a single mass flywheel. Save me the trouble of buying a Centerforce in a couple years.

Watching this with interest.

Thanks for posting this @OldGuyNewJeep... watching with interest. I just got off the phone with FCA and it doesn't show in their system yet. From the sound of what I'm reading I'm hoping they do the right thing and eliminate the issue once and for all.
