I might sound crazy but I actually like the Navigation that comes with the UConnect 8.4

The one thing that sucks about all phone navigation apps is that they don’t integrate with instrument clusters.

Google maps does this pretty well. Also shows stalled vehicles and such.

Waze does it too, but Waze sucks. Don't use Waze.
I use Waze, never tried Google for live turn by turn when driving, I've used it riding my bicycle at times, but it's in my pocket and I just listen to the audio prompts.

So.. it should be able to warn people about speed traps too, huh?
You can. Just run Google maps, and when you see a speed trap, you can mark it on the map and it will warn other drivers that are using google maps. They can confirm that the speed trap is still there or if the officer has left.

My wife literally can’t drive without Waze. Even on routes she should know by heart. In the Jeep the other day, she had to pull it up on her phone and constantly check it, since I have the base radio.

I can’t drive with any GPS maps. They mess with my head. I understand well regular maps, but the digital loses detail as you zoom out and won’t stay oriented to North. My mind works in N, E, S and W. Not ahead, left and right. Army training. I always miss exits and turns when I try to use it.
I often set my vehicle maps to N up. Makes much more sense to me.

Same here! Air Force and Boy Scout Training before that! LOL! When we were driving our New Jeep home from Tennessee we stopped at every state Welcome Rest Stop and picked up fresh maps from each state. I actually picked up two each, one set went to my Middle Grand Son who is in Scouts, but needs some REAL WORLD type navigation training.

Google will ask if the speed trap is still there when you drive by and you can select yes or no. I assume that as people click no, it gets removed.

When Google finally does crowd-sourcing, I'll switch. Waze rules for showing police alone. The irony is I think Google owns Waze.
Google owns Waze. More people use the crowd share Waze nowadays. Waze is used to update Google maps of the smaller incidents.

Haha! I still look for antennas, water towers, windmills and hill tops, so that I can triangulate myself if need be. It’s amazing to me how many people these days don’t know where they are when asked and have no concept of the points of the compass.

Some years ago, on a 8.5 mile solo day hike with portions of thick forest, the trail markings, aka tree blazes, disappeared about halfway through the hike.

I wasn't concerned until the trail itself -- what little of it was evident in the undergrowth -- seemed to veer off and end at a rocky stream bed a short distance later. I searched a bit for where the trail might've resumed, but No Joy.

Being well-kitted for the day (the Scout in me, too :)), I simply took a moment to study the park map to orient myself to my approximate location. Using that data and this exact compass, I pushed through the undergrowth until I eventually came upon a [rather rough] horse trail that eventually crossed the primary foot trail.

No cell phone. No GPS. No fretting. Just an analog pocket tool and a willingness to press on.

I quit using Waze probably a decade ago. I hated all the alerts. I don't drive recklessly, so I don't need to know about cops.

Obey the law, and actually DRIVE your vehicle (instead of looking at your apps) and you'll be just fine.

I've been using Waze for years. It's my go to GPS. I use Google maps at times. Both my Jeep and F-150 have GPS's in them and they both suck. I have CarPlay in both vehicles and Waze works great on the screens.

During this year's annual camp & ride rally, I had both Google Maps and my Garmin Zumo GPS running concurrently. The idea was to compare and contrast the routing selections of each device. I hedged my analytical bet here by memorizing most of the route options beforehand by studying a paper map.

The Garmin prevailed in avoiding the many [and arguably unnecessary] left and right turns of the last-stretch country road routing that Google Maps clung on to. On the other hand, I did prefer the main route selection of Maps vs. what the Garmin suggested. So, call it a reasonable tie.
