Has anyone confirmed the weights? Is is possible to see now that they are shipping? Is it possible to see or do the weigh them when they're shipped for the carriers to know what to charge?

I want to know since I'll be flat towing mine and after a few upgrades I need to stay under 5k pounds. I would assume the above posted in post #1 might be updated now?

Anybody else not impressed with the weight reduction on these? I think even for the lightest model, the 2-door Sport is still quite heavy. I was expecting somewhere in between 3,000 to 3,500 lbs. I did a quick Google with the JK and it seems not very much was done to weight.

They were never going to get a body-on-frame, solid axle SUV to 3,000 pounds without employing extremely expensive materials throughout.

Considering that shit like crash standards and required equipment always go up with time, I think they did a decent job on weight.

They did something right considering the 2 door manual is rated at 25mpg highway. That's fantastic for this type of vehicle.

• Jeep Scrambler (JT) Pickup will only be available in 4-door model

Jay - thanks for this info.. I'm assuming the towing weights are "with" the towing group (upgrade battery, alternator, and tow harness??)

What is the tow capacity of a Sahara Unlimited w/out it?

My boat is about 2,100 to 2,500 dry weight. I wont' tow much and I have a Honda pilot for long distance towing. There is a Sahara - Nacho in the lot at my dealer.. no tow package.. so wondering if they could put the hitch on? And if that would be enough for me to tow my boat 15 miles once ever couple weeks?

I'm just curious, not arguing or instigating...How could you expect a 15-25% weight reduction? 3000 would be a massive restructering of the rig...It would be AWESOME, but next to impossible. I guess you could use extensive carbon fiber and/or magnesium in all the places that don't "normally" get dinged off road, but initial cost and repair costs would be almost prohibitive.

But all this doesn't explain why the Cherokee and Grand Cherokee have perfectly normal tow ratings in North America. The Cherokee even higher than the Wrangler with a lesser engine and transmission.

The tow package in a wrangler is completely different than the tow packages in the other Jeep models. Most of those tow packages include improvements to suspension, better equipped cooling systems and a tow/haul button that manipulates the transmission. Just the differences in suspension alone can change max tow capacities.

I wouldn’t - the pin weight of that trailer unloaded would exceed the max pin weight (350lbs) and would eat into payload. Anything else you put in the trailer and the back of your Jeep would make it even worse.

I get people wanting to be able to tow, but if you are in the market for a tow vehicle a wrangler should be your last choice.

Since we have never found the later until this weekend when we checked out the Nest I thought we may have a perfect solution. Back to the drawing board.

Another question, any chance at all the diesel will up the towing capacity? I get towing capacity is more that just a motor.

Apologies if this has been addressed... but the Owners Manual shows tow capacity of 2dr at 2000lb (not 3500lb)

Hauled a load of scrap to the landfill last Saturday. I was 6,950 entering (Jeep+trailer+4 people+load) and 6,100 leaving. Jeep handled the work like a champ which is what I'd expect since I was below tow specs.

However, subtracting the known weight of my empty trailer and all occupants leaves me with a weight of roughly 4,350 lbs. for my Sport S with the hard top, which is kind of heavy compared to the weights listed on page 1 of this thread. I found that interesting.

Have you looked at the airstream basecamp or 16' sport? Those should both be within the jl's capability.
