Your existing configuration will handle 35's just fine.

Is a lift necessary? That depends on how you plan to use the Jeep. Strictly speaking, a lift will make it easier to climb over obstacles. Will this be necessary for the light to medium trails that you frequent? Maybe not. You will have to test and find out. If you find that the tires are rubbing against the Jeep on these trails, a lift would be recommended.

Will you like how the Jeep looks with 35's and no lift. Many people do. You may or may not. This is a personal decision.

Just take your time and modify your Jeep. Put on the 35's first. See how you like it. Take it from there. One size does not fit all.
Thank you! I’ve stuffed my 33’s on my JLUR disconnected and assume would have rubbing on 35s. I love how the Xtreme Recon looks in terms of wheel well spacing. To me a 2.5” lift leaves too much room and better for 37s. Any recommendations on a 1.5” lift option? If only Jeep had an option to add the Xtreme Recon lifts.

What @Jamrock said… plus I’ll add it some info. If you aren’t going to be actually needing the additional height of a lift but want one, go with a spacer kit. Inexpensive and easy install without needing to make additional changes. If you are going to do some off-roading I’d do a smaller lift like 2”. Synergy is a more complete lift. Dynatrac 2” lift is a good basic lift as well. If you want max flex AND need it for tails go with 2.5” lift from either MetalClaok or Rock Krawler.
Thank you! I do occasionally bring my Jeep on moderate trails with areas requiring some flexing. I’ve found the spacing on 33’s perfect to support my needs. I’m not going to be doing anything crazy or rock crawling so assume 3/4-1.5” lift would be the right options. I really enjoy the Xtreme Recon spacing and ultimately would want to mirror something along those lines with BFG 315s. Don’t want to stuff 35s on my stock JLUR, but also don’t want to add options that could impact on road handling given this is a daily driver 90% if the time.

To retain the stock spacing in the wheelwells, all you need are 3/4 coil spacers, since the stock 285/70 are 32.8 inches tall and 315/70 are 34.4 inches, thus 1.5 inch bigger.

If you choose to keep your optional upgraded wheels, you will need at least 1.25 inch wheel spacers, since 1 inch spacers leave to much stud lenght to fit inside the oem wheel pockets. However they fit the 4Xe wheels just fine.
Thanks! Great insight. If I go the 3/4 spacer option, I might just get some new black rhino rims that fit.

What do you recommend for the best 1-1.5” lift similar to the Xtreme Recon?

None of the spacer lifts will give you a dual rate coil, which really helps with handling, flex, and avoiding sag when loaded down vs a standard linear rate coil. The longer shocks help with suspension droop, which is severely limited by the short factory shocks in my experience. Yes, this kit is on the expensive side for a 1-1.5” lift but is far better on and off road than the factory rubicon or XR suspensions. With the bump stop extensions, you might be able to get away with 37’s down the road but it would be really tight.

I have the same rims as you and am currently waiting for my Black Rhino rims that should show up next weekđź‘Ť
By the way, wheel spacers are for looks and are not needed with 315/70 tires.

Some gas Rubicon owners have used the springs and shocks from diesel Rubicons. They seem quite happy with the results. The diesel models are taller than the gas models.

This is a good option if you want to maintain the factory ride. The change in height is less than what a lift would give you.

which ones did you go with? I had the Black Rhino Sierras on my RAM 1500 and if I go 35s I would get the Sierras again

It was a long long process. I wanted something with style but that doesnt look like what everybody else has. I wanted something that clean fairly easily and can be driven in the winter without damaging the finish. At the end of the day. Not many wheels met all my criterias.

the winners are the Black Rhino warthogs in all black. They have that AEV Salta XR surround with the Black Rhino Armory middle part.

Great choice! I’ve been looking through their catalog and am having a similar dilemma. I want something with style but not something everyone els has! Love the black rhino looks.

This was exactly what I was looking for! I don’t think I’ll ever go up to 37s and personally don’t like the look of 2.5” lift on the JLUR with 315 K02.

I’ve heard mixed reviews on the Xtreme Recon factory lift; but do like the 1.5” hight bump over the rubicon on the 315s.

I defiantly want to do things right and not settle on a spacer lift or low quality lift which will cause more issues down the road. In the end of the day this is still my daily driver and good handling onroad is important. Just want to do that with 315s and a little more clearance. I’ll check out the skyjacker 1-1.5” lift. Is there anything else I should consider in addition to a lift? Reinforced tire carrier, steering stabilizer, tazer?

Recently purchased a 2020 JLU Rubicon and am just starting my build. I traded in my 2019 SAHARA and absolutely love the sturdy feel and tighter handling of the RUBICON.

So far, I’ve just been adding small accessories such as floor mats, stubby antenna, door still guards, tinted windows, and lock covers.

I’m now looking to start on the next phase of my build focusing on wheels and tires. I understand that with the JLUR gearing and axles there should be little impact to the handling moving to 35s. This vehicle is my daily driver and primary focus will always be retaining the on-road driving abilities. I do however take the vehicle on light / moderate trails on the weekends.

If the assumption that there should be little impact in moving up to 35s (315s KO2s) is correct, what additional modifications would be recommended. I have come across articles stating lifts/ leveling kits, and reinforced tire carrier are recommended.

My understanding is that 35s should be ~1” increase above and below the axil; thus a 1” lift should retain the factory spacing in the wheel well.

Essentially looking for a recommended build sheet for an aftermarket XTREME RECON JLUR.

I’m fairly new to off-roading and modifications! Any advice is greatly appreciated. Photo of the Jeep below.

While you may be ok with the 4.10 gearing….I wasn’t…. When I went with my lift and 35’s…..I regeared and I’m very happy I did it. My Two door Rubicon 3.6 auto is much happier with the 4.56’s that went in it. As far as lifts…..everyone has an opinion. I went with Metalcloak 2.5. My Rubicon rides better than stock with the lift. Not drastic…just better…less jarring and more compliant over bumps. I am pending an off road trip with this set up…but folks with similar rigs all seem pleased.

Thanks for the background on your journey. I’m trying to limit going down a similar rabbit hole. Wanting to maintain stock handling but fit 35s with light lift so I’m not rubbing when flexed. I’ve stuffed my 33’s and assume I need at least a 1.5” lift. Similar to Xtreme Recon
If I knew then what I knew now, I would start with the lift, shocks, and LCA. Regear, and then see how the steering is before adding the Steersmart components.

Thanks! Seems to be the right path.
