The XR package calls out
  • 35-Inch Tire Rubicon 392 Suspension
anyone know what that is?

I am shopping for a replacement for the wild peak m/t‘s since I need a snow rated tire for where I live. With my JKUR I went thru a bunch of rubbing with different lifts and tire sizes and I don’t want to go thru that again. I also want to leave my non XR suspension stock. I need to decide between 285/75/17s and 35/11.5/17s size.

I tried to follow what others were doing with my jk and I rubbed like crazy. So is the XR392 more lift than not XR? If they are the same I would feel more comfortable ordering 35s.

The tire carrier will be tight. Funny the variation. My stock tire has at most an inch.

The XR is already setup for 35s. It comes with 35 tires. The suspension components are slightly different on the XR package (XR doesn't have fox shocks) to account for increased weight. However, the lift is the same.

The gearing is also different on XR (4.56 vs 3.73) to accomodate for tire size increase

You can put 35s on the standard XR with no additional mods though.

I don’t have a standard XR I have a non-XR 392, maybe that is what you were thinking? I think the toyo at3 in 35/11.5/17 should fit and not rub. Not sure on the tire carrier tho…

According to threads in tires/wheels 285-75’s work on the spare carriers but 35’s rub the bumper even though there’s only about a half inch difference ( varies by brand)

What is the XR doing to allow for 35s?

Spare relocation. Since the Toyo 285-75’s are 33.9 in and KO2 35’s are 34.4 , AT3’s are 34.5 and the half inch allows them to work on the carrier and are 3 mph off at 60 mph and recalibration required when over 3 mph off at 60 mph and as an added bonus you gain about 5mph top speed. ( take a wild guess at what tires I have chosen)

Yep, they also add the Mopar reinforcement on the XR. I don’t know the numbers but they are readily available in the Jeep performance parts catalog. They are not cheap and according to posts not the best choice due to lack of hinge reinforcement ( no personal experience)

I have 35/12.50 r17 tires on my stock, non XR 392 tire carrier with no issues. I am using 17x9 wheels with a -12 offset (4.5 inch backspacing, versus the 6 inch backspacing of the factory non-XR wheels) so my spare sits 1.5 inch farther out from the mount than with the factory wheels.

The only thing I had to change was I swapped out the factory rubber bump stops for the spare tire to larger ones I got from Amazon ($31), and I raised the 3rd brake-light higher by simplymoving the factory mount for it up to the next set of holes. (no new parts required for that.) My spare tire sits very close to my bumper, but there is about a 1/4 inch of space left. See below for two pics of the spare. See more of my pics here if you're interested: Stock 392 with 35's

The lift for non-XR is 1.0-1.5"" and 2.0" for the XR. You can run 315/70's on a stock Rubi, you won't have any issue on the 392 non-XR.
The lift for both is the same (except shocks). This is directly from Scott Blum.

Yup. I've mentioned this before, but I think the confusion comes from the fact that the XR sits an inch higher because the tires are ~2 inches taller. (35's versus 33's)
