So, a dealership around here is now adding a "+5000 Customization Allowance" which boosts the Wrangler by 5K. A few weeks ago they had a "Market Adjustment", but I figure that is wildly unpopular with buyers. Seems like an interesting way to generate revenue without making the buyer feel like they're getting hosed.

I almost want to call up and ask what I get for the 5K, would it include a Mopar Lift and tires? :) My guess anything past some easy bolt-on stuff blows that 5K out of the water. :)

There is a 100% chance that anything available in that $5,000 customization allowance is marked up significantly to soak up more of said allowance.

Probably a bucket full of multi-colored hood decals :(

For me, this is nothing, as you say, but a "revenue scheme." A bunch of useless "junk" other than the floor mats that I purchased for under half of what these guys are charging.

I had a local dealer here charging a $3500 Protection package that was non removable. it consisted of NOTHING more than scotch guard, Undercoating, and a paint warranty. I'm sure they don't even do the undercoating or scotch guard and even if they do that costs a $100 max. They ended up loosing the sale because of this. They were actually $3k cheaper than the dealer I ended up buying from so the price was comparable in the end, but I refuse to do business with any dealership that treats me like I'm a moron.

2 other dealers had a similar add on, but they removed it once I said something. I'm all for trying to make the most profit that you can, but just raise your prices instead of trying to convince me I need your b.s. package.

Here in Arizona, the big scheme is the "Desert Protection Package," which consists of $49 worth of window tint and a $100 sealant job sold for $1,500.
here in LA we have the "urban protection package". 5" thick lexan windows and runflat tires.

last year we stopped at a KIA dealer to check out the new Carnival. they had some bs package on it for a couple grand that HAD to come with it. included in this package was the free nitro refills. the sales guy told me that nitrogen is very important to keep the vehicle in alignment and if you dont have it your warranty may be denied. i was like "oh sht really? that sounds important". and then we left and laughed it off. kia and hyundai dealers are the worst ive ever dealt with. feels like visiting Bobs Used Car lot.

I'm used to dealers playing the "side sticker" game with things like "paint protection package", tint and wheel locks. I just thought this one was novel because it was a round 5K exactly, and a few weeks ago this was the same as their "Market Adjustment". Like another poster said, it seemed very "vague".

Security Etching - that's the Finance office way to make a few bucks - they tried to scam me of $395 for that - even tried to hide it on final papers - took me two tries before he had to redo all of the paper work to get rid of that fee - "we aren't making any money on this sale :) - I had a great salesperson but the finance manager was a piece of work -
