I decided to install 3m ppf on the door hinges today and took some pictures of how I completed it. This isn’t a very difficult task just requires a lot of time and patience.

First I order a small roll of film from amazon. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01LWPKZCF?psc=1&ref=yo_pop_mb_yo_pop_mb_pd_t2

When it arrived I taped it to a flat surface over night to get out any wrinkles.

Next using blue painters tape I created templates of the 3 sections of the door hinge I was covering. This will involve some trial and error when cutting the tape to fit.

I then layed the template over the back of the film and used a sharp utility knife to cut out. Need 8 total of each section.

After cleaning the surface, peel the back of the film off and apply the film in a rolling motion from one side to the other (prevents bubbles). Then firmly press down/rub the film to secure it.
You may mess up a few times in the beggining but there is more than enough film to use if you do. I also placed a line of film on the edge of the back doors too.

That’s really all there is to it. Hope this helps if you plan to do it.

Did the exact same thing to my daughter's JL this morning. Also, using the same 3M material, I made a sill guard for each of the front doors. The Mopar sill guards do not protect well enough IMHO.

I bought a 96" roll of the stuff, some day, some day, when my 2 door gets here, I will do the same thing on day 1.

It looks like you did a great job, I am familiar with the 3m product. I have only had my Jeep for 400 miles, so can I ask why?

The front tires can kick up rocks onto the hinges. I think it is more of a rubicon issue because of the bigger tires and rock rails. I would think swapping out the standard rails for running boards or the premium rock rails should help with this issue too.

See this thread for reference:

This is at roughly 2000 miles and very little gravel
I will post up more pics tommorrow with showing how bad it is now at 4K. Along With the pre cut 3m film we will be offering so every one else dosnt end up in my situation.

Exactly! As soon as I read reports on chipping hinges, I thought I'm definitely going to apply some 3m film to the leading side of the hinge. When my Jeep arrives later this week it'll be the first mod I do! :like:

Guess I know what I’m doing as soon as mine comes in. I already picked up some 3m to do the sills as I don’t like the look of the sill plates so I may as well do the hinges at the same time.

Any chance someone (@Jeep007) is willing to make a copy of the pattern used and upload it for others to print off? From there, it sounds as easy as buying the product online and cutting, then applying.

If you have the pattern already, I assume that's the toughest part and might save others considerable effort.

Pretty please with a cherry on top! :)

I’m sorry but I threw the templates out when I was done. The blue painters tape is easy to use for the template. I would cut a piece with a scissor and see how it would fit. Just some trial and error.
