Moderation is the key.
Satin black is good, flat black is a travesty, unless it's like a rhino lining. I understand functionality. Chrome can be overdone too.
I'm more of a gloss black man personally...for example, the Willys grille is spot on.

I ran chrome rims “back in the day”…wrapped in Gates XT Commandos…
I had aluminum wheels but chrome side pipes on my CJ still think they look badass :)
And don't forget the chrome headlight rings :)

A few weeks ago I saw a new Mercedes SUV with a body that was entirely made of chrome. It was god awful ugly. It looked like the Chicago Bean on wheels, reflecting everything. 🤮

Great lookin CJ-5! :like:

I really liked the side pipes on my CJ-5 as well…those pipes could sing a pretty tune, what with the Buick V8 under the hood.

If you like chrome, odds are good you rode a Schwinn Sting-Ray. That's all I'm saying.
I am not a fan of chrome in most cases but I am a huge fan of the original Schwinn Orange Krate, Apple Krate, Lemon Peeler, and especially the Grey Ghost.

As someone who was really interested in cars for the whole flat black thing….I agree it can go away I’m tired of it. The chrome, love it have some on my classic truck. Want nothing to do with it on something I daily. My motorcycle had a ton and I traded it in. Pure pleasure vehicle and I averaged 1500km a month constant cleaning not for me. We got all the engine choices now, maybe some better tire and rim choices from the factory are due

When I see chrome wheels, I always see someone "stuck in the 90s". But, to each his own. It looks good on some classic cars though.

"Chrome won't get you home," as the old saying goes.
There are a lot of people who love, and often overdo the chrome accessories. I never understood the obsession. It's a Jeep; Not a big rig, or an old Harley, or a street rod from the 80's/90's.
The only Chrome I don't mind is the grille, and that's because a lot of the CJ's had that look.

I hope flat back never goes away. All that bling belongs on a Cadillac Escalade and not on a utilitarian vehicle such as the Jeep Wrangler.

I’m an old guy too, and a motorcycle guy, though none of the motorcycles I ride are chromed-up. (I think that’s mostly reserved for the roughly 35% minority of the motorcycling public on Harleys)

I put chrome wheels on my black 8 cylinder CJ in 1980. I thought that chrome accent looked cool at the time, but there weren’t many other options back then, and the wheels started to flake and rust in less than two years. When low maintenance brushed aluminum wheels became widely available I was an instant convert. I still prefer that look, but I’m obviously in the minority, as it seems that the vast majority of aftermarket wheels are now some combination of black or dark gray.

As others have noted, chrome is still available for those who want their Jeep to have the flavor of a Harley or a 1955 Chevy. I occasionally see Jeep’s like that in the inner city, so I know there are still people doing it.

Look at those *spotless* Chuck Taylors!
That picture is as American as the Wrangler, Corvettes, and Harleys.

I think they are PF Flyers? I seem to remember all the older kids wearing Chuck Taylors. Younger kids wore PF Flyers. Life seemed easier back then. Simpler times!

I remember the Krates selling for $100-$125 back then. Which was a lot for a kids bike back then. That Gray Ghost and original Krates are probably worth $3K-$4K today?
