when i had to do something like that (i cut the straps before i got the shock bolted up. only on one, i learn quickly) i just used the not-completely-useless scissor jack to compress the shock enough to slip the bolt in.
The irony is that leaving the straps on makes it easier to install shocks in the wrong locations. Not that it would have helped, because I probably still had the idea in my head that longer stuff goes up front. I don't really remember my entire thought process during the install. I was scratching my head at crappy directions while racing the sun and the rain.

Anyway, yes, a jack can be very helpful in compressing a shock. I just didn't want to fish out the jack, so I did it the hard way.

I added some beauty covers for my exposed bumper area. I’ve got the JK 10th Anniversary Bumpers on my JL. I’ve ran this for over two years on the JL and at least 5 on my old JK, but better late than never. I was going to heat gun them more flush, but decided that this was good enough.

Well it took me many months, but I finally got suitable tires. Nitto Ridge Grappler 265/70/17. Would of like to have gone bigger but some health issues hit me hard.
I caught Covid in late March, caused me to have a stroke, laid up in a hospital for almost 2 months. All I could think about was getting out of the hospital and drive my new only 4 month old Jeep JL.
With some great Physical Therapy over the last 4.5 months I went from a Wheelchair to walker to now just using a cane. Was on a mission to relearn how to drive with opposite foot, get outside and do slow mods to my Jeep. Since June I have installed aux lights, Bestop Sunrider, LED headlights, Grill Inserts, LED floor lights, rock lights, and now tires. Next mod will be a new front bumper Jeep Power!!

Dang! 42's on 20's...that's some ground clearance. Well done. What is your gearing and how is the acceleration?

I added this this weekend. Winch going directly to the battery made me a little nervous so after looking over many threads on this forum about adding a relay I added this to my jl-300. just need to add some boots over terminals.

5.38 and with the diesel there’s no lack of power. Shift points are roughly equal to the stock 3.73/33’s.

Wow, those 42s make the 20s look like 16s. Lol

Are you on stock axles or upgraded those too?

did you fabricate those covers or are they available on the market? I kinda like that closed look instead of all of the exposed wires etc.

Successfully installed the Mopar Passive Entry Kit over the weekend and programmed it this evening with the Tazer Mini. Believe it or not it took me longer to get the Tazer installed than it took me to install this kit.......

I just cut them out of some plastic I’d got from eBay a while back. Made a template out of cardboard first. The plastic is maybe 3/32” thick.

took it into the dealer for it's 30k service. went in with a low tire on the front left. asked them to not adjust the tire pressures (i run at 32). came out with the low tire still on the front left, meaning the lube tech didn't do the tire rotation. need to go back and bitch at the service manager.

makes me wonder how much of the rest of the service they didn't do.
so the Service Manager was really cool about it. he accepted that the tire rotation probably wasn't done, and agreed the repair order said nothing about a 30k service or inspecting the diff fluids. going in this saturday for tire rotate and diff fluid inspections, no waiting (hopefully). will report after.
